Could someone please define "licesed" for me? Is this the licensed fee paid to the city to do business or is this a license issued by someone I am not aware of?

Define Licensed?

I have two licenses. My standard business license (issued by the county), and a state contractors license.
My business license only allows me to accept payments up to $1,000 . My state class C contractors license allows me to take payments up to $7500 per job.
Since hurricane Isabel, there are many people floating around with no licenses and uninsured.
"Yes mam...we can get that tree off your house for $10,000".
The sad thing is...lots of people have been desparate enough to pay outrageous prices. Who wants to have their roof cave in and have further damage...or the next rainstorm flood the house because of gaping holes in the roof.
The state of Va. isn't playing around. They are enforcing the law bigtime. I've already seen one scrub contractor hauled away in handcuffs. It's a felony in Va. to accept more than your license allows.
The good people in your local business office will be able to tell you all your licensing requirements for your city/county...as well as contact info. if you need state licensing.
