Are they thru the week or mostly on the weekends?

A friend of mine ownes a GM dealership here in town, He never gets them thru the week, but on weekends, he gets hundreds. Enough to empty the paper tray on his fax machine.

He just started turning it off on the weekends.

The spam he got was unreal!! The same types of crap most people get thru e-mail.

Get rich quick, make your (oo)'s grow, etc.

I will watch this one closely, I wonder if there is some software to solve this problem. For now, I guess, be glad it is only 10 per week. It could be 100!

I HATE those things. But, I get them on one of my lines (which has NO fax machine), in the middle of the night. I mean like 2:30 in the morning! So, what I have done is this. You answer the phone, hear it beeping. Disconnect the HANDSET from the phone, and then go back to bed. I have checked it many times throughout the night, and the thing is still trying to hang up. So, I am keeping one of their lines in use ALL NIGHT! They have multiple lines, but so do I! So, I tie up a few of them until about 8:00 in the morning, when they get in and figure out what the deal is. Of course, after the third time, this BS stopped!

My other course of action, should the calls not have stopped, was to be as follows. I hit *69, and got the telephone number. I wrote it down. Tried reverse lookup, no listing. I was going to catch a telephone company guy, give him 20 dollars to give me the address associated with the number. Then, take out axe, sharpen blade real good. Wait till dark, go to address, chop ALL phone lines from building. Of course, actions taken at the building can be escalated as required if the calls do not stop.

Phil, another thing you can do to get even with them is grab the incoming number, then fax them back. Send a document that is nothing more than BLACK pages, and make sure it is at least 1,000 pages long.

Like I said, I HATE those SOB's! The equivilant of fax spammers.

P.S. Opting out of those lists does NOT get you off of them! It's the same for email spam! When you "opt out", you are CONFIRMING that the fax number (or email address) is in fact VALID! Now, the slimy rats that run the "opt out" service compile the list of KNOWN GOOD numbers/email addresses, and then SELLS THEM! You are, in fact, HELPING them to annoy you! Keep this in mind!

        Hello Everybody:

        Woody pretty much nailed it.

What I do is try to find out the Phone Number of a Person I can Talk to in person. In most cases you can get their fax Number easy but to talk to a human somtimes is tough.

I never thought of Disconnecting the phone line! I will Keep that in mind! Thanks Woody!

But I did call this guy Twice, the First Time I asked him to take me off his list. He said OK.

The Second Time I called him, I told him that if he faxed me again that he would regret it, he laughed. He Faxed me again!

So I took about 10 or 15 sheets of Black Construction Paper & Printed on there with white out one word per sheet " Take 555-555-555 off of your Fax List."

Then I put a Couple of sheets in the Fax then taped them together while 2 are in the Fax OK, I had the 15 or so sheets all taped together making a circle while being fed through the Fax then I faxed him & let it run for about a Half an Hour.

He called me back the next day & said he would never fax me again!

Of course now I have a Fax Program on my Puter & I could just taken a word .doc LOL make all the Pages, (100 or so) have a Black Background & Fax him the Document. They don't like having their Lines tied up!

If I could "preview" these unwanted faxes before they are printed out ... I wouldn't mind. Store them in memory first, preview, approve for printout or delete. Maybe a "gizmo" is available to do that.

                  Phil,

Another fax to email service is J2. www.j2.com.
They have a free service and paid services as well. I have a dedicated fax line, but now I have it on 24 hour call forwarding to the phone # J2 gave me. Every fax that comes in get's sent to an email account of my choosing. Makes sorting through un-wanted a breeze and you only print out the ones you want.

The only down side of the free service is that the # they give you may not be a local number. As a result, a have a few dollars in long distance fees each month plus the cost of the call forwarding service from the phone company, but this is minimal.

My other business went paperless 4 years ago because of all the un-wanted faxes. Instead of a ream of paper a week were were using a ream a night from all the ads faxed to us.

if i remember right florida passed a law making it illegal to fax unwanted advertisements. Check with your local DA office and maybe you can get some compensation from the sender.... everyone can use $10-$20k at this time of the year.
