  • Company Name

I am 16 and starting out on my own and I can not think of a business name. My last name is Shearer if you can not tell already! I am only going mo grass for now so i do not want landscaping in the title. Do you Have any suggestions.

    Thanks

Your last name could easily be turned into a business name. With a name like Shearer, the possibilities are endless. Be creative.

Use the Shear part of your name and write down a few possibilities. Post again when you have a few ideas and people on here will let you know what sounds good.

Stick with Lawn Care or LawnService if no landscaping is involved.

The above idea was for a slogan. What do you think? The only company name i can come up with is Shearer Lawn Service. Tell me what you think of for both!!!

        Thanks

                Lawn Shearers.

Personally, I think Shearers is a bit harder to say than just saying Shears though.

Not to sound harsh, But are you allowed to use a fictitious name in your area at your age. I don't mind the youth of today to get out and earn a few bucks, But don't try to make it out to something it is not (a business).

In my state you can't even operate a dishwasher other then at home unless you are 18.

It is up to the employer to enforce this law. Which in your case will be the home owner. If you or someone else gets hurt, they will have hell to pay.

With that said, I cut a couple lawns here and there when I was about 14. I didn't think I had a business though. I didn't cut grass again for money until I was 22.

I wish you luck, But stick to your neighborhood and just use your name when asked.

some advise from me would be patient on a name, you need the work before you need a name,i would definitely sleep on it be fore you know for sure that is the biggest regret that i have about my bussiness moblo&go, lets face it it sounds gooffy ,iam stuck with it for now because i have shirts, invoices, and other things with my buss. name on it it sounded good at first but now i hate it the only thing that is can do is hold on to what i hAve.be patient get the work first and while your working on getting the work then work on a name. good luck man

                      Name?

eric1, you took the words right out of my mouth ( or keyboard )

jshearer9, I would also think about Shearer's Lawn Service.
Your advertisement ( shirts, biz card, ec..) could have a picture of a person mowing tall grass with either a scycle ( not sure if it's spelled that way but you get the idea ) or a mower. Then make sure you put " J. Shearer , Proprietor " in there somewhere. This way people understand that it's a play on the word Shearer and I think they tend to have a better impression of your business becaus they can apreciate the creativity that went into the name.
Whatever you decide , best of luck.
If the grass is greener on the other side, move your fence.

                        Thanks for the help!

Soupy, When you said about me having a business... i have mowed anywhere for 15-20 yards just in high school, and there is a big demand for it now.

What kind of license, insurance, and permits do i need for my business?
