    hello to all,

i hope this thread does not cause as much controversy as the one i started on monday (tax implications)! nonetheless, i am ready to get the ball rolling. my question is...what is a realistic number of lawns to maintain on a part-time basis? i realize that there are many variables (size of lawn, size of mower, etc) that go into this equation but i am simply looking for some "raw" figures. i am concerned about seeing dollar signs (in terms of the volume of sales that i achieve) and as a result, i could possibly overextend myself and not be able to recover from unexpected occurrences such as rain, etc. also, i would like to leave enough time in my schedule to pick up a landscaping job or two. oh yeah, if possible, i would like to maintain some kind of life outside of work also! any insight would be helpful.

You don't need to look at lawns, but hours. In this business, you are selling TIME.

I asume you work days at your current job?

    Get home at 4pm?

Mow for a couple hours each evening. Work 4 evenings per week. Give yourself an evening for rain. Also, you can schedule a half days mowing for Saturday. Be sure you schedule saturdays mows for people who won't mind being cut on Sundays if it rains. I will not go to a residential place on Sundays. Only a commercial place that is CLOSED.

You need to feel out your clients as well. If you are going to end up with some upsells like bed maint. bush trimming, etc. you need to save time for that.

If your schedule is getting too hectic, you should look for a helper. Spring will be your busiest time, working around rains, etc., but it will level off in the summer.

Remember, you are selling TIME, not jobs.
Jeeps are like women.....much more fun with their TOPS OFF!

I also go parttime I did about 10 lawns a week on average most on my day off if rain my next day off. I grossed over 8,000 dollars 2,000 more then I had projected.

There is no reason that you can't make an extra $12,000 a year doing this type of work on te side. Your buggest money making is in landscaping but can require alot of equipment that you probably can'r afford being part time. Get about 10 acounts that can be easily managed in 8 hours and go to town. good luck
