  • What do you think? My Flyer.

This is a sample or the flyer I am sending out tomorrow. Some of the text is Blue and the fonts are a little different but you get my idea.

Tell me what you think about it honestly. I figure if they sign a one year contract I am still making over $1000.00 per customer yearly. I am a solo operation and think it might work out good for me.

Let me know what kind of response is normal from flyers through your experiences to please. Also if my prices are right for my location. (East Coast of Florida, By Palm Beach)

I'm wondering how in the world you can provide the lawn service you described for 25.00, and and do 4 FOR FREE. I'm not in Fl., but around here I average 50.00 a pop for the service you described. I might consider 1 free with a service agreement.

Also. I would not offer a price without seeing the property...unless maybe you are targeting a neighborhood where all the properties are basically the same.......

      Just my two-cents!

In Florida it is basically a year round service. I am targeting a select area so I can keep the accounts close. I will be able to do 2 lawns in about an hour to an hour and 20 minutes (6-8) daily by myself.L ets just say I only get paid to cut their lawn 40 times out of 52 weeks. Thats still $1000.00 per customer yearly.

        The system works like this:

The customer pays for 4 cuts at $25.00 a pop...then recieves 1 FREE and the stsem repeats itself. This way I am still getting on averave $100.00 per month per customer. Also I can sell my other services while I'm there.

Now take these numbers and multiply them by 50 contracts. Thats 8.33 contracts a day and 50 thousand per year.

          Hello Treasure Coast lawns:

          Pressure Cleaning Specials:
          Driveways: $45.00 (Includes Walkway)
Decks & Patios: $40.00 (Add $15.00 For Screen Enclosure)
          Exterior Home: $99.00 (Excluding Roof)
Roof: $99.00 (Includes FREE Gutter Cleaning)
Everything appears OK, except the above! (It would be nicer if we could see a actual Example, because how it's presented means a lot)

OK, on the above, I would have Limitations on what your Fees are.

I'm surrounded by a lot of Smaller Homes here in town & My Property is larger than any one of the 3 neighborhoods that surrounds me.

I get Fliers all the Time placed on my Mailbox. If you put that flier on my Mailbox I would be calling you to come do my 800 foot plus driveway for $45, you don't have to worry about my Walkways because I went broke pouring concrete...

My House is 2 story on the Back Side & the Front is 3 Stories Tall, I would love for you to come over & Pressure Wash My House for $99 & half of my Roof is at less than a 45 degree Angle (Steep is not the Word, it's a Cliff) that's the Three Story side.

That's $243 to Pressure Wash the Drive, House & Roof. I'll Pitch in a $200 Tip & I promise you that You Will Hate My Guts the Rest of my Life when My House & I get through with you!

The only reason I'm saying this is Not All Folks are Good Hearted RedNecks Like Me...

Some Clown aka Potential Customer might get a hold of one of these Fliers (Flier in the Wrong Hands) & give you a Hard Time About it! Trust me they out there.

One of my First Contracts maybe 10th or so a lady had me write in that I would do Tree Trimming by Removing Dead Branches & Broken ones. I did it & Signed it. (I thought she was talking about her Pine Trees Only?

About 2 years later, with no Problems at all she had a Oak that had a Limb to break & it was barely touching her roof. The Limb was only about 2 foot in diameter, I ate those Words in that contract.

Luckily I had a RedNeck Buddy that owned Bubba's Tree Service & he did me a favor & did it for $500. My Contact with her was Once a Week Year Round for $185 a Month.

So you see how much money I made.

There's a lot of Jerks out there that don't care about nothing but...

"How Bad they can get over on Folks to Support the Lifestyle that they Really Can't Afford"

I can't remember now but this Guy had one of his Fliers get in the Wrong Hands & the Guy was a Lawyer, the Kind you don't blow the Horn for if you think you are going to Hit him & this Guy Tried to do a Number on him for a Price he had on his Flier!

I'm just trying to point out the Pitfalls of Pre Pricing Unknown Jobs! No More & No Less!

I Wish You & Yours the Best of the Best!

What happens when someone you give a flyer to tells their friend with a property like GM described and you are suck to your prices? Small print sucks (stating the size you will do for listed price), but in this case it just might save your ass.

Try to avoid putting costs in any advertising. Not only can you run into the problems GrassMaster described but you've now also given them your price to shop around for someone cheaper. Tell them what services you provide, but talk price face to face. Good luck.

                    I have a couple comments;

                    Pressure Cleaning Specials:
                    Driveways: $45.00 (Includes Walkway)
Decks & Patios: $40.00 (Add $15.00 For Screen Enclosure)
                    Exterior Home: $99.00 (Excluding Roof)
Roof: $99.00 (Includes FREE Gutter Cleaning)
Thank you Mr Grassmaster for responding first.

You're hanging yourself here. Have you ever done any pw'ing? Roof Cleanings, decks etc... and if you have to what extent? What equipment do you have?
I know a few guys that do pw'ing in your neck of the woods and if they saw your flyer they'd be asking to meet with you. If you catch my drift.

Surface cleaning(driveways, walkways, concrete patios) for residentials starts in the neighborhood of $0.10 per sf and up.
Roofs $0.25 sf and up, depends on tile, shingle, pitch, color, etc...
Ext Homes start at $0.25 per sf of wall space or $1.00 per linear foot if single story

If anything, plz get those low balling #'s off of your flyer and substitute with "competitive pricing", "friendly", "reliable", etc...
                    Or state:
"Driveways starting at $45, decks as low as $40, and so forth"
don't commit yourself to any #'s until you look at whatever your doing first.

You also have to have a minimum for whatever service you're offering. Do you know what you're operating cost is per hour for what you're doing; mowing, pw'ing, handyman service.

You're not only killing the market for all of us but you're costing yourself money. For those #'s you posted, you might as well just collect unemployment.

one more thing. on your website, do you maintain that property that is on the upper left hand corner. If so, it looks good, if not, I'd consider removing it.

If you are going to put prices in, give either a range for the pricing, like $25-$30.

Or put 'starting at $25'. Or 'around $25'.

There are too many things that can change your prices.

                          Treasure Coast Lawns:

It seems to me that, although everyone is trying to offer you some sound advice, you are looking around it, focused on that $50,000 "pot of gold" that you see at the end of the rainbow. I don't mean to offend you, but seriously dude, you need to WISE UP!!!!!

You wanted a critique of your flier, prices, etc., so I am going to give you one. Remember, you asked for honest opinions, so that is exactly what I am going to give you.

First. Your flier gives a price (set in stone, a HORRIBLE IDEA!!), and then it says "FREE ESTIMATES". What the hell are you going to give a FREE ESTIMATE on when you have already given up all of your prices? You are thinking that your low prices (they are TOO LOW!!!! WAY TOO LOW!!!!) will hook, and reel in, potential customers. Guess what? It won't! You know why? Because, you have given up the ONE chance you get to make a deal with any potential customer, and that is when you setup an APPOINTMENT to give an estimate!!!!! Being there IN PERSON, ON TIME, LOOKING LIKE A PROFESSIONAL, and giving a price based on THEIR PROPERTY,NOT PULLED OUT OF THIN AIR (this means MEASURING THINGS), is what will get you that job, NOT SOME DAMN FLIER! The flier will only get you the opportunity to show up in person! I'm going to tell you something else. Having the LOWEST PRICES will get people to NOT CALL YOU! I'm serious about this! They figure you don't know what you are doing if your price is too low!

Another thing is that "every 5th cut is FREE" bull. FORGET THAT! Maybe go with "every referral that signs up for a year will get you ONE FREE DELUXE CUT". If that isn't enough, add something else into the package. Using YOUR numbers, you are giving away 12 cuts A YEAR, PER CUSTOMER! Are you INSANE? Twelve cuts, times 50 customers, equals 600 CUTS GIVEN AWAY A YEAR!! Even if you only figure on giving away 10 cuts per year, you are coughing up 500 FREE CUTS a year! And, using YOUR NUMBERS, at $25.00 per cut, this comes out to $12,500 at the 500 free cuts, or $15,000 at 600 free cuts. I'll tell you what, for the first 500 or 600 cuts of the year, you are LOSING YOUR ASS! You are out there working, not for free, BUT AT A LOSS! You still need to pay for fuel, equipment, maintenance, etc. So you are LOSING money.

Something else you are NOT looking at is this. You live in Florida. You seem to think you can go out and mow 5 days a week, every week, without ANY concern for things like bad weather. Cripes man, what happens if a hurricane runs up the east coast, and you have a week of embedded thunderstorms? You can't mow for a whole week, that's what! Now what do you do?

You need to pull taxes, equipment costs, maintenance and upkeep, etc., out of that $50,000, plus set some aside for future expenses, future equipment, etc., and THEN look at how much you have left. You'll find that you can probably make more money working for someone else if you charge the prices you are talking about!

I'm going to spell this out for you loud and clear.

You are bankrupt already, before you even started, at those prices!

Everyone here is trying to tell you this, but you aren't listening. You are making a common mistake. People here have "been there, done that", and are trying to tell you how to run a business, not go belly-up!

If you want to go bankrupt, do it while sitting on the couch, where you are nice and comfortable. This work is too hard to do it for free.

Finally, lest you think I am being a moron, I am not. We are trying to look out for you here. I know these answers are NOT what you wanted to hear. But, they are the RIGHT answers. Should you choose not to heed them, that is your right, as is going belly-up.
