First thing you should know is you can throw fert for 100 yrs and never meet these guys. Its as soon as you go down and register and tell them where your at that they focus on you.
Years ago i thought id be a good sport and do this. About 10 days later im in my new shop on a rain day. It was about 10am raining buckets. Before i poured 57s on my 200' entrance it was pretty bad. 3' sink holes and rutts . you had to have a truck really. We would throw logs in the rutts to get out some days. So we are *** around in the shop. 1 guy is trying to get a topedo heater working another is loading beer and ice in a cooler and im at my desk (if you wanna call it that) doing something. LV says hey theres a guy stuck on the lane. I look out and theres this guy in a Reliant K (yellow) on his hands anf knees looking under his car. Its up to the rocker panels in a rutt. Pouring rain. So after we watch him a second LV jumps in a truck and goes out to check it out. Comes back for chains and says says" its some plant and pesticide guy or something" So 1st thing we do is hide all the beer !!! LV gets him out of the rutt and he comes in the shop w/ binders full of papers and soaking wet and muddy. Plus it was freezing ass cold. He introduces himself and indicated he"just came out to look at our operation". i quickly informed him it was "my" operation. So about that time ,,all the sudden you hear this Whewwwwwboommmmmmm ! Dudes on his knees trying to get the heater running. This guy jumped 4' high and 6' back !! Funny as hell. He goes further to explain hes the regional inspector. Since i live in a rural county i have the fortunate priveledge of this guys attention. There might be 10 of us in his region. vs. if i was in franklin county(right up the road) i would never see the inspector. Understand?

So the first thing this guy does(we now call him "sawed off") is start looking around. He goes up to a stack of bags against the wall. Well guess what?,,, someone swiped them w/ a ztrn and they ripped. 2 weeks ago !!!! so he wants to know if i have "appropriate containers" for this "spill". I informed him i would re bag them in some trash bags or something. That wasnt the answer he was looking for. he said he would go over "containers" w/ me before he left. At that point i looked over and asked steve to go get me a "container" of beer. Dont foreget its 10am. He wasnt impressed i could tell by his face. If you can picture that guy on office space w/ the thick glasss,, thats what this guy looks like.

So about 5 minutes later he calls me over to a small shelf. He asks about 1 specific little bottle that has no label. "do we know its contents?" so i twist off the cap and sniff it and say"im thinkin its growth regulator" He about went through the roof! again not the answer he was looking for. So he begins grabbing other bottles off the shelf expressing to me that none of them are "labeled". So i politely took one bottle from his hand,, this must of frightened him cause he twitched startled as i reached. So i asked him bluntly what hes so uptight about as i straightened up the shelf he fkd up and told him id get them "labeled". He explained he senses agression and that im required to allow unimpeided visits to the facility. He just does his job,, blah,,blah, blah. Oh i foregot to tell you i saw both my guys clasp the face to cover the lagh and duck out of the area when he twitched. So the situation had become humerous to me. Once again,, wasnt the answer he was looking for.

So i go get another beer. Next thing i know hes got my truck door open and hes looking in the back of a truck at my tank. Dont forget its raining. So i go out ther and slam the door on the truck. He jumps again. I continued to ask him who the fk he thinks he is and ask him how long he plans on staying. Should we go get more beer? !!!!!! Nah,,,, he wants my application records ! My what? I knew what he was talking about but once again ,, not the answer he was looking for. I told him i wasnt sure where they were tha i would go in and find them while he stood in the rain. I went in and got me another beer and huddled over the heater.

So now he comes back in,,, wants to talk to me about the spreader that isnt "secured" in the back of the truck. So i immediately inform him that i think he is a real "peice of work" and that i am so greatful he stopped by. That i was looking forward to his next visit but that for now he had to get the fk out.

So he goes back sits in his car and writes up "warning violations" on all this crap he found. Brings them back into me and begins explaining the first 1 as a "container" violation. So i akknowledged it and politely reached over and dropped it in the valvoline trash can for proper disposal. At that point he dropped the other "warnings" on the bench and walked out . Only thing he said was " ill schedule a 30 day compiance visit good luck". I simply said "dont get stuck".

So needless to say this guy is a frequent fixture at my shop. He doesnt find any violations any more unless its the spreader not "secured". He sicked his supervisor on me a few times. Luckily his supervisor and i get along much better.

We continue to rass this guy. He shows up we shut all the doors and dont answer. He knocks for 15 minutes than sits in his car for 10. Hes a real dik. To say the least. I talked w/ another shop up the road. They call him "state baby". They have the same relationship with him.

i spent over $500 after his first visit to get into compliance and he never even came back for that 30 day follow up. Ive pointed that out to him also.

Also forgot to tell you that day he walked out. He left that binder sitting on the fluid cooler on a ztrn. About 3" thick w/ a bunch of state documents and regulations. I took it straight to the dumpster when he left. He never did ask about it.

So hopefully youll be luckier than me. Either way its really not hard to please them. Since this day ive hired a guy to run my apps. They have a better relationship and have known each other for years. He dont like him either but used to work for a bigger company and worked more in depth w/ him there. So i saty out of it as much as possible. It still never fails though,,, this guy will walk right up to me and call me by Mr. like we are great buddies when he visits my shop. He bugs all the shops around here. He still drives that K car. We call it the "low rider" cause all the suspension is busted on it. Its wall to wall papers and books inside. One day he had a large pizza sitting open in the passenger side. Hes a complete bone head.

You better hope you have better luck w/ your regional inspector.
Ive spoke w/ a number of guys out of franklin county and none of them even know theyre inspector. But theyve heard all about mine !!! Im the lucky guy !!
