Conducting Market Survey?

Does anyone know where/how to aquire data for a particular area/market?

I would like to do some research for my region, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it?

Money and time are limited so I'm hoping there are some online resources I can use.

Also, I read somewhere about the "top 100 lawn service markets". Any idea if there is a list of these and where to find it?
