    Hello ,

My husband and I have a company based out of Decatur, GA.
We have ran into a problem that I am confused about.
A Georgia Dept. of Labor representative told us that we could not hire workers as temporary or seasonal workers, and not expect to pay unemployment during the winter. We plan to work 2 guys year round, but the others will not be working during these months.
Maybe I presented the question wrong to her. We have discussed this with other local lawncare companies who says that they do not pay unemployment during the winter. I'm sure some of them use illegal immigrants, and they have suggested this to my husband. We do not want to go down this road. We want the foundation of our business to be legal and correct. There are many other issues to keep up with rather than worrying about being caught handeling business illegally.
How do we classify someone as a seasonal worker, and is it possible to not have to pay them during the winter?
    LABOR COSTS ARE HIGH!!!!!

go to a leasing company and do leased employees. that way you pay them one check, a little higher then direct employees, but you have no work comp, no taes to worry about and no un-employment
