  • Business Liability Insurance too Expensive?

    Hi all,

I'm a young LLC in Charlotte, North Carolina (just entering season 2) and I've been researching business liability insurance. I've been running without it up until now and - knock on wood - I've been ok. However, I fully understand the advantages of having it and I want to get a policy.
My problem is that, after speaking to a couple of insurance companies (State Farm and such) I've been told that the minimum annual premium in North Carolina is $850. Needless to say, that's a huge chunk of my profit right now since I'm only in my second year.
I've looked through the boards here and I've come across lots of people who claim to be paying $450 or $500 for a million or more in coverage. Can any of you put me in touch with the insurance agencies that offer those kind of premiums? Are there specialty agencies for lawncare providers? I certainly don't want to pay $850 when I can find a deal for half of that!
Thanks for any help you can give me!

    -Bryan

The Nationwide folks here have been good. Although the rates are changing around this time of year.

Minimum premiums vary by company. Find an Erie Ins. Exchange agent, I think their minimum is around $300 in Tennessee so it may well be the same in your area.

I got $500,000.00 coverage and minimum premium was only $180.00. I'm about 1 hour northwest of you so definetly find an independent agent who reps ERIE.

When I started way back they would not even insure me, I paid a lot at first until you get some history. Raise your price and use it for a selling point.
