how to lighten wallpaper on screen

we put a picture of santa and my little girl as the wallpaper and it so dark you can't hardly see it. in the past it was fine. any ideas and i did adjust the brightness and still dark. thanks ........ steve

Assuming that the picture is a jpeg or similar put it on a photo editor and readjust the brightness and contrast then reinstall.

Is it the same picture or is it a new one?
Do you know if you've adjusted your brightness or contrast since last pic?

Or as others say you might need to take the Pic & make adjustments in a Graphics program.

Or you might need to go in to your video card properties & make some adjustments there...

All are guesses at what the problem might be.
