  • Hey Woody

Im needing to setup a new Dell Optiplex GX620 SFF to run 2 monitors. The graphics used on this pc are 2D for the most part. The dell site says ATI Radeon X600. I did just a little searching around and right now with little knowledge of the card I think the ATI Radeon X300 will be suffice. This pc runs basically 2 systems. You may have heard of them one is ComfortView by Carrier, the other is Teletrol. Both are EMS for buildings.

    What are your recomendations?

There are quite a few dual-head video cards out there. Some of the very best are the ones from Matrox. While they are not 3D gamer cards by any stretch, they ARE the top of the line in dual-head and in image quality as well.

While I really DO NOT like they way they have their website arranged (you'll see what I mean), you should be able to find out everything you need to know HERE.

I'm sure you could get by with the ATI's as well. The only time I run more than one display is on my "TV Computer". It has the full motion video going to one output, and the desktop to another.

Regardless, X-600's are running around $90.00 which is pretty cheap. I really haven't followed the ATI line since they began the whole X-x00 or X-xx00 part numbering scheme, so I am unaware if there is any real issues that would prevent the X-300 from working. I doubt it, but you may want to look into it.

Where do you get your stuff online? I need it to be the low profile....can you just change out the bracket on them if they will fit slot wise?

Ah...computer nerds are cool....guy ended up giving me 4 of the ati x600's and 2 more Dell flat panel monitors. Got it up and running...Im guessing it shuts the original adapter off. I tried to hook up a 3rd but no go. Do you know of a way to turn it on?

Good luck trying to run a 3rd. I believe it may be a "windoze" limitation. Regardless, if you could use 3 or more, it would eat into other hardware sales, like additional computers!
