  • registry software?

i'm trying to find a program that will go through my registry and clean it out/fix it/whatever. However, all the ones I've found want me to pay to use them for the full extent (trial versions fix pointless stuff). Anybody know any free ones?

The BEST one is a reinstall of Windoze. No kidding.

No doubt. My old roommate is a systems admin. He used to bring home someone's laptop on a weekly basis that would be completely eaten up with crap. He'd dump all their junk worth saving onto an external hd, wipe the hd and the machine, and reinstaaaal.

If you're at the point where you looking at your registry to solve problems then you probably need to wipe your hd and start over.

If you PM me an e-mail address I'll send you 5-6 free ones I have. I don't have records of where I got them or I'd just post the links.

i got a trojan/virus on my PC that is dug into the registry somewhere. I read online how to get rid of it, but I can't find a registry cleaning program that will do it (for free). I really don't want to install XP, I have too much stuff on my computer, plus I don't have the time to sit and do it.

If you know the name of the reg key you're looking for you can go after it yourself manually. Cick on your Start button, then Run, and then type in regedit. Ctrl+F brings up the search box and then type in what you're looking for

I've posted these quite a few times here...

              Try this...
              Ad-Aware SE Personal

              And this...

              a-squared Free Feature Overview
Emsisoft Anti-Malware for best real-time protection against ransomware and other malware with dual scanner, behaviour blocker and more advanced features.

Both of these are FREE & they are updated almost every day.

Make sure once installed you update both of them before running them to get best results.

I run both of these at least once a week. Good Luck.

try Komando.com, she has a lot of downloads for stuff like that. And the only national computer talk show I know of.
                look under downloads, security.

                  thanks guys.

C-man, there are directions for deleting it manually, but it's been a few years since I've done the real technical stuff on my PC. So I don't really remember all the stuff to do, incase I make mistakes and that mumbo jumbo.

Grassmaster, Ad-Aware would not get rid of it, but I will try the other. This trojan I believe is new, only 2-3 weeks old, from what I could tell on a website. I guess this is what happens when you are bored and lonely late one night

just reinstall windows as the others said. it only takes a couple of hours to uninstall and then reinstall your printer and whatever else you have.

                      LOL!

Here's the painstaking way to do it. Try opening the task manager (control, alt, delete), copy and print all of the processes that are running. Then do a Google search for every individual file extenstion that is running. If you find one that shouldn't be there, track it down in your registry and get rid of it.

I'm sure Woody is going to laugh his butt off when he sees this recommendation, but that's one way to find it.

Do you know the name of the virus? Go to www.Prevx.com and look it up. It will tell you if their software will remove it.

I just had one last week or so, AVG didn't see it. I even had AVG scan that file. I used Prevx and at about the same time I was getting Prevx going AVG updated and found it.

BTW...I did what RRS suggested to find out what it was and then went and did a search and found that prevx removes it.

couldn't find it on that website. I found directions online to remove it, so if all else fails (updating and running all the programs I currently have), I'll go the long route. The trojan incase anybody is wondering, is 'Trojan-Spy.Win32@mx' I removed the virus that was on my PC I believe using AVG last night I believe.
