  • A Question for Grassmaster and Sponsors

Everything costs money, but Why don't we have that nifty feature on this great forum site for posting pictures? You know the "Browse" botton that gets us directly into our Picture Folder where we can click in a picture and have it download directly into our response.

Any chance that its an upgrade that could get installed the next time the servers go bonkers?

That's something I've tried to avoid due to more problems than I have now & my Data Base would probably double in size in less than 30 days, triple in size in 60 days. Of course it wouldn't be near as bad if my monthly revenue was about triple what it is now.

A lot of people really go overboard posting pictures, they don't think about file size or the actual physical size of the pic. That's why large file size pics load slow & then you have the over size pics that force you to scroll to the right & all of the pic still doesn't fit in the monitors viewing area.

It would be 100 times easier for someone to either use a free pic hosting web site or host pics on their web site linking the pics to the forum as they're doing now, than me having to deal with trying to keep up with 100's if not 1,000's of pics for everyone else & dealing with everything involved in storing them on my web site.

I have no problems uploading to a site, then linking here.

But I was curious, could you not limit the photo size posted? Or if not, maybe have a pop up window (when you click on the image button) that reminds people to double check their file size and/or keep them around 800x600? And then possibly have them automatically deleted off your server after 30/60/90 days or something like that?

I know what you mean about people posting all sorts of sizes. It's not pretty.

Ohhh, I thought of a neat idea!

Have Chuck set up a site where he would charge a member $25 (give or take)for a 1 yr photo storage fee.....with a limit of course.

Now that would be a good idea! Not too expensive, and the user could link their photos anywhere on the web just like any other storage area.

It could be an option for each member. Helps support the site, and helps someone get their photos online to post anywhere. It would advertise for this site as well. Say their photo page is called "lawnserviceforum/photogroup/ScaperS2k.com". Obviously if they post those photos around and people right click, they will see your website address as well.

Chuck, if you read this, this is a no brainer if you could make it work!!!

I can see the option for this showing when a new member comes aboard. Or reminds members when they hit the 'add photo' icon.

                Eric,

Why would they pay for it when they can get it for free all over the net?

I think there are many people that probably don't know that. Plus it could be a way of giving back to this site.

Those free sites have gobs of advertising. The other ones do charge you.

If the page was set up properly, it could look like a 1 page website with a bunch of pictures from the person as well.

It would be easier to use because members that had questions could simply ask right here on the forum.

Oh, and it adds a little extra to the forum use as well.

                  Just a thought of course.

All internet providers provide at least 10 mg of space

I dont know if everyone is aware or not that their Internet providers provide free space or space included in your normal charges to allow you to post pictures or start a web site....

I know i have earth link and there's a tool bar at the top of the page that lists WEB , Email ,Protection ,Toolbox , Games and the one to click on and pull down is

TOOLBOX: Click toolbox then personal web space and you get a box that's divided so you can transfer images stored in your pictures file over to the providers personal web space then just set up the link on the forum by typing in the name of your picture with your ip surrounded by [ING] on both sides ... THe N should be an M but if i do so the site will get a blank box

It would look more like :

                    [ING]http://home.your address../your id / name of picture.JPG[/ING] substituting the M where i put the N

Anyone can easily post a picture without even going to some on line storage facility but Scapers right that more people need to learn how to shrink their images before posting...

I like G.M`s description of the 1 MB photos some load then you have to scroll across the screen to see the entire picture and the entire thread gets thrown out of wack but people learning will screw up at first so they should preview before hitting submit....

I would think everyone has a simple editing program that came with their computer to shrink them to 40 kilobytes which is the most you really need as long as you put said image in jpg , or JPG format

All one has to do is click on their picture in the pictures folder and when its brought up to full size click Image and the simple paint program will shrink it by clicking sketch scew and filling the boxes wit 50 percent [or whatever you decide the same number in both boxes] of the orriginal size and eraseing the orriginal 100 percent...

If you have a small picture just erase the 100 percent and type in 200 or 300 percent [ or whatever] and youll double or triple the size of the image....
