  • Stihl or Husqvarna pole saw?

I own an orchard in Portland, Oregon area and have received some excellent ideas about equipment from this forum.

I am looking at pole saws. The two I have narrowed down to are Husqvarna 326 or Stihl 75 HT.

I usually do not use the equipment for extended time but when I do use it I want it to work with maximum power for duration. In other words, I am willing to sacrifice weight for more power because my guys will use it occasionally.

I can get a slightly used Stihl for about $350 -$375 or a new Husqvarna for about $420. The Stihl is heavier and I do have great history with my other Stihl equipment. I have never owned a Husqvarna before and notice it is a little lighter and has one heck of a hard name to spell….

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

I think either one will be just fine. But for me, I would go with the Husky. Granted I have great luck with Stihl back packs and Stihl chainsaws. But have great luck with Husky trimmers. I have used Stihl trimmers and the Husky just seems better. Espesically comparing the 75 with the 326.

And knowing that the polesaw uses the engine from the Husky 326 trimmer, and knowing Husky makes a killer chainsaw also, I would lean that way.

But I think both would be fine. Not sure I would buy used if the price difference was that little between new.

I have a Stihl and wouldn't trade it for a truckload of Huskys. The Stihl just has more grit to it when you use it for a prolonged time.

How many Husky trimmers have you used? Personally I feel the Stihl 75 is underpowered compared to the Husky 326 engines.

But if it was just a regular chainsaw, Stihl is tough to beat, I have a few. But I don't have any that are less than a year old and I have heard of some issues with their new carb systems. I've heard a lot of issues actually. I would be concerned choosing Stihl as my next saw, and might actually go with Husqvarna. Both brands are top notch, and I'm not sure neither has much of an advantage, unless the Stihl carb issue has not been solved.

Heard of a lot of carb issues with new stihls. Brother-in-law has one, had problems with it. Do not knock husky trimmers, unless you have used them. Had nothing but success with them. Durable, easy starting, light, use em all day. Have one of their chainsaws, model 350, very good saw, I will probably buy another this year.
