  • Trailer with Sides or Without

Which do you all prefer--open trailers with four foot sides, or without? I think they look nicer with because it limits the visibility of your equipment, plus you can put advertising on them. However, you obviously can't just reach in and grab something you need...

How about the side gate for getting your Z-rider off? Is it worth it?

I'm about to make my first trailer purchase in the next week.

    Thanks,

    Michael

I like 1-2 ft sides, I also like the side load trailer for mostly the WB's, It works better for them just because of the angle of the ramp. The shorter sides allow reaching over the side to grab something and easier (IMO) mounting of racks and such.

I like my enclosed because of how easy it is to reach over and grab something that used to belong to me.

Short sides allow over rail access for tools or gassing etc.. This is one of many benefits open trailers have over enclosed, vans, or cabovers w/landscape beds.

Thanks fellas, I'm going to go with the open trailer with sides. I've already got an idea to run a tarp from the front to the back for rainy days. I also really like the look of having advertising options on the sides.

Update: Bought a 16 foot trailer with 4 foot sides. Only thing annoying is fueling up...Have to let the gate down to get to mowers.

I have the 2' sides with 48" side gate. Wasn't using the side gate much when I first bought the trailer until I decided to box in the front 1/3 of the trailer. Now I use it all the time. Allows easy access to the front of the trailer for when I'm carrying a load of mulch, bagged chemicals, or various other tools or materials.
