ok i have narrowed by search for line trimmers to these 2 brands.First reason is because of the massive dealer support in my area. now for my question. What is the biggest differance between the two? which one is the better choice? i have not used either product so both are much better than what i am using at this moment[ryobi] and this product really sucks. need help which one is the best to buy. advantages/disadantages? does one give better gas milage per say?

Is there a Shindaiwa dealer near you? I have used these trimmers for years and I have found them to be very comfortable at the same time very powerful. They have also come out with the multi-tool which I have recently purchased. It is a great machine with the capabilities of doing more than one operation. The dealer I bought it from also sells Stihl and recommended the shindaiwa over it

You really need to narrow things farther down than just brand names. Echo has many more offerings in their line than Stihl does, so you need to compare apples with apples. Don't compare an Echo SRM 2100 with a Stihl FS85, for instance. In the 25cc category, Stihl FS85 in no way compares to the Echo SRM 260 (2601), but will outperform the SRM 2100, which is built for a totally different kind of user. In the OPE industry, it is widely felt that Stihl does the best job of marketing, but is light years behind the rest of the commercial mfgs. in quality, innovation and manufacturing, particularly with their line of trimmers.
