deere is good
i own two 757s and two 777s and i havent had any problems whatsoever! in fact i would recommend jd to any and all !! heres why! lets start with the deck , for one it is by far the cleanest deck out there, i never have to clean my deck and it is very tough , dont be fooled by someone who doesent have a clue about the engineering involved in the making of jds 7 iron deck,i believe it is the best deck on the market, it cuts very smooth , very level, and very effortlessly!! the deck height adjustment is by far the simplest on the market, push a pedal and turn a knob its that simple!! the machines are also the smoothest riding of every ztr that i have demoed to date! period! in fact thats how i bought my jds , i simply bought the one that rode the best! jds weigh around 1800 lbs, thats more than most out there, so they are built solid ! they also have the best seat that i know of ( you have to get the delux ) !my 757s are 54'' 25 hp and my 777s are 60'' 27 lc, all kawi !
i could go on for an hour but you get the drift , i would recommend jd ! but i wouldnt say it is the best because every one has an opinion, and there are alot of other ztrs that are just as good ,in fact i always tell people to go demo all zs they can and buy the one that matches your criteria, i do think the jds are the very best for my needs and criteria!!! also, above all else,go with the brand that gets you the best dealer service and warranty!!

OBVIOUSLY YOU DIDN'T BUY A COMMERCIAL UNIT!!! I have owned several JD 21" commercials which were very good, but I have since changed to Honda. The Honda dealer is in my county and its easier to get parts instead of traveling 40 miles to the nearest JD dealer.

My opinion ....and the opinion of a lot of others on this sight!
I own both. The HD 45 is worthless on hills, but great at flatland mowing.
The Exmarks are great and have been my mower of choice, but I won't buy another because they are putting greaseless spindles in more of their machines. The greaseless spindles don't last as long, and are expensive to replace yearly; and its expensive for me to have my employees pull them apart to smear grease on the spindles in hopes of making them last longer.
The greasable spindles in my 10 year old 52" TurfTracer last, and last, and last. Its a $$ ripoff by Exmark since they sell you on how much $$$ you will save on their Mobile 1 hydros over the competition.

I haven't decided what my next mower will be. I have options and time to look for the next best machine, as long as it has a floating deck.
I thought about having a demo on my worst hilly property of the Deere version of the Dane/Stander models where you stand on the "rider"; and looking at the new Deere ztr that bags/mulches with the flick of a switch. But nothing conclusive.
I'm torn between 2 lovers: The Exmark would be my top choice except that I do not like where they are going with greaseless spindles. While there are some here who have little trouble with them, we have had too many replacements; the Exmark 36"TT has been the mower of choice and gets used alot. I replaced its engine this past winter after 3.5 years of use. It was cheaper than doing a rebuild.
A local dealer is pushing to have me buy the Hasquavarna ztr, but thats not likely since dealer support is a C-/D+.

Obviously you've never put some serious hours on a jd 21" I've used the JX 85's while they were still making them. The wheels were the best part of the mower. The new JX 75's (their new top of the line) are crap, period.Originally posted by Stephen M.OBVIOUSLY YOU DIDN'T BUY A COMMERCIAL UNIT!!! If your jd was so good, you wouldn't need new parts for it anyways.Corn Flake

I ran the 14 SX and had 5 of them. The Kawasaki engines were great and rarely needed anything. But we mow alot of accounts year around, so things like cables would break from constant use; wheels would need replacing because of worn out rubber and bearings; you know, the normal wear and tare of use. Even good commercial units need parts.
I can't speak to their "new" stuff. Like I said, I got tired of running to the dealer to get my parts and making the 80 mile round trip when I have a great Honda dealer 8 miles from the shop.
Now let me speak to your "no serious time on these" comment. I ran the SX for several years until it didn't make economic sense to keep throwing repair $$ at a tired machine. I got every dime returned to me in a pot of gold. Any machine will be a bucket of bolts in time after a good hard run. I personally haven't found any mower to hold up under the abuse of commercial mowing. Usually the engine will outlast the deck and its parts. In other words, the deck falls apart around the engine, and this is true of any 21" mower.

I was going to be uncivil last night, and your comment still gets under my skin; but I won't dignify your crap with an answer other than this.
