Help. I have 36" walk behind that is having problems. The right shaft and pulley that drives the belt that drives the tire keeps pushing the snap ring off and letting the pulley slide out towards the tire causing the drive belt to come off the pulley by tire. I have replaced the snap ring that hold the shaft in place by the flange bearing and tightened the support brackets but every time the machine torques up on a hard turn the snap ring comes off. Anyone know what causes this. I have "repair" the problem 4 times with no success. It keeps falling off, HELP!!!

Buy some new 5/8 AND 9/16 snap rings.

The groove on the shaft that the ring rests in gets round shoulders with age. Take a rotary tool with a little cutting wheel and grind the groove down to the point of where a 9/16 snap ring will fit.

Also make sure there is some lateral play in the spine coupler between the trans output and outboard shaft. Take some 1/4" dia. flat washers and mount between the bearing (which most likely needs replacing also) and the frame to give the coupler some movement.

If the above fails just replace the shafts and the pulleys.
