I bought a brand new Echo trimmer last year. This year I've began to have problems getting it started cold. Once it's running, there are no problems at all. It's just between lawns, when the engine has time to cool off that I have trouble starting it again. I've changed the spark plug and even tried playing with the oil/gas ratio in the mixture, I have been using the Echo oil also. Any suggestions before I end up taking it to the shop for repair?

The carb might be getting gummed up. Old fuel thickens and could be plugging the inlet/needle and seat area or passages in the body of the carb. It's not very difficult to do a carb kit and clean it out, if you're mechanically inclined. Add an appropriate amount of Sta-bil or similar product to your gas in the future and keep your supply fresh. Drain the tank and run the carb empty during storage to prevent problems. You would benefit by switching to Amsoil. It runs and burns cleaner and will extend the life of your gas mix over other oils. Others say Opti 2 does as well, though I am just starting a trial of it so I can't comment on it yet.

Two problems....
A. It could be out of warranty...depends on when it was purchased last year.
B. It might not be a warrantable repair.
What is the specific Echo model? They make a bunch of different models with different carbs, etc. By the way, do not play around with the oil/fuel mixture.....that's an invitation to a dealer to deny your warranty, if one still applies.I may be going to hell in a bucket, baby,
But at least I'm enjoying the ride.
