  • Scag w/b belt question

I just bought a Scag 36" belt drive walkbehind a month ago. First 2 weeks it was awesome. Now, for about the last 2 weeks when I'm working on any kind of incline, I hold one brake to make it turn and the other tire wont move. I see the gear drive turning the pulley but it's just spinning inside the belt. I know in wet conditions this can be a problem, but its been dry the last couple weeks out. On flat land I have no problems but if I'm going uphill at all and try to turn it just sits there. Does anyone know what causes this? Is there some sort of adjustment to put more tension on the belt to help this situation? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You need to adjust the steering control rod. This is the rod that comes off the handle that makes the belt tighten against the pulley. They have to be adjusted periodically as the belts stretch.
