  • extended hedge trimmer or short hedge trimmer

Need to invest in a hedge trimmer. Is it practical or worth the money to invest in the extended hedge trimmers or is the normal length hedge trimmer sufficient. Also, if I need to invest in the extended trimmer, is it better to get one that articulates. Thanks for the info.

Yes and Yes. You will need both.

Thanks, but since I'm just starting out and am on a budget which will do me good if I can only invest in one?

In that case, go with the long reach w/ articulating head. You won't be disappointed.

I really, really like my 40" single sided shindaiwas. They are long enough that I almost dont need my pole trimmers anymore.

I use a stihl long reach trimmer. Its great for those big lorall hedges. It works ok for the smaller stuff and takes some getting used to. I only use a long reach mostly because I'm trying to find a ZTR but eventually I'll get a short reach.
