I had a Toro "T-Bar" 36" Proline and HATED it. It seemed if you hit a bump you aways leaned foward and this caused the mower to go out of control for a second or two. Going up hills was even worse. (I had rather push mow) Do yourself a favor and demo one first before you buy.Comment

Going by what you just said, it's obvious that your controls were way off. I have seen a lot of people with the controls way out of wack on the Toros. Many of the ones I see for sale on E-bay are set up incorrectly and I often wonder if that is why they are selling them.
If you can't control a Toro with one hand, on a hill, you have it set wrong. One of the beauty's of the T-bar is letting it be like a 'shock absorber' so that bumps DON'T make it go out of control.

Iv'e used the Toro 32" belt drive and the Toro 44" hydro both with the T bar. I don't have carpel tunnel but I do have a bit of arthritis in my hands off and on and trigger finger ( medical condition that the joints kind of get stuck) anyway I find the T bar requires way less effort to control, you kind of just palm the bar and away you go. I know people love or hate certain equipment but it's what works best for you. I won't even consider a pistol grip.Comment

I demoed a Gravely with the prosteer the other day and it was amazing compared to my pistol grip gravelys. I have carpal tunnel's as well and all new mowers will be prosteer or the new Exmark ECS controls I demoed those as well and they are amazing machines.Comment

I love the T -Bar. Haven't had a problem with it it just takes a while to get use to.Comment

The Hustler H-Bar is vastly superior to the anarchaic T-Bar and comes only in a hydro configuration.
While Jack D. prefers individual levers to control each pump and wheel motor the Hustler H-Bar is acceptable if one is a pansy, has carpet tunnel sydrome, is a limp wrister or is a girl.
