  • best midmount ZTR for slopes

I am looking for a new 60" ZTR to mow 5 acres/week and which one of the acres is heavily sloped. I presently use an older 60" Dixie Chopper (1992 w/ 3000 hours) but it is about to give up on me (right wheel motor or pump is barely working and not at all on an incline). The Dixie has been a workhorse for me but is not very good on the slope. I tend to pucker up everytime on the steepest part (straight up and back down). I even have to weed whack part of it.
I realize a front mount would probably be the best for the slope but the speed and durability of the midmounts is my top priority for the flatlands.
I am not a commercial mower.
I am a bit intrigued with the Ferris with Independent suspension but do not here much about it on this forum. Part of my mowing is unimproved pasture and an old cemetary which both are very rough. I have also been known to mow thick brush and small trees with my Dixie.
I would consider a diesel but the extra weight is a bit of a concern when mowing with the ground slightly wet in my good lawn (ruts) but have not heard any body mention the weight issue on the diesels. Also the diesels seem to be a bit more top heavy which would not be good for the slope.
Money is not an issue for I will use this machine for the next 20 plus years and only want the best ZTR available that is better than the others on slopes.
Any advise from you professinals will be well noted and appreciated.
All the dealers are within 40 miles of me.

    Thanks to all.

deere or hustler ! i own deeres and they work great on slopes and on flats and i think the hustler does as well! my jds are 60'' decks and from outside rear wheel across to the other outside rear wheel measures 59'' so the stance is very wide! as for being heavy on wet ground, let it dry a bit then always change your cut pattern, i rotate four patterns weekly even when dry, i never have a problem with ruts!!

Hustler is the best Z I've ever used on a slope. I would be more apt to buying a Exmark 52" hydro walk behind if I was doing a lot of work on slopes. A lot less weight to deal with and will give an excellent cut.

FERRIS... suspension is AWESOME on slopes! I mow a 4' vertical yard edge by sitting lower side wheels in the low angle of hill and top-side wheels on crest of hill. Scary at first but what a time saver! Used to hit it w/trimmer, now just drive it out, Ferris is a great hill hugger.

Thanks everyone, I have narrowed my search for best ZTR for slopes down to the following 4 mowers. Hustler Super Z, JD 777, Ferris IS3000, and Skagg Turf Tiger.
I will demo these on the slope I have. I'm sure there are other mowers as good these but these 4 mowers keep coming up as good slope riders from your responses here and other threads. Your experiences with in the seat evaluations goes a long way.
Also the Ferris, Super Z and JD have had good reviews as good mowers for my rougher flat property as far as ride comfort. The Skagg has hardly any neagatives from anybody.
            Thanks again

Scag Turf Tiger has a low center of gravity and a wide stance on the rear tires.

This machine sticks to a hill.
