Personally, I would be a bit concerned about them shattering upon hitting an object. Where are you seeing tungsten carbide blades for sale?

Please be careful...
Woody is correct! If the blade manufactures thought they could build a tougher longer lasting blade some of them would do it & devise a ad campaign using their stay sharper last longer blades as the key selling points.Originally posted by WoodyPersonally, I would be a bit concerned about them shattering upon hitting an object.

Blade Sharpening is a necessary evil, just like putting fuel in semi trucks. Just like feeding & maintaining an all female family.
On my 21" mowers if they were ran over 1/2 of the work day they got sharpened & air filters checked - cleaned daily. My riders were worked fairly good & the filters were checked daily, blades sharpened once a week.
Now sometimes you can find a thicker aftermarket blade. That works out better.
Don't get me wrong but in most cases when Blade Sharpening is a dreaded chore... One or both of these is happening...
Not set up with proper equipment to Sharpen & Maintain Equipment
And or...
Cutting bare spots causing excessive blade wear.
If you are cutting Bahia, you are about cutting bare spots... I'm only saying this because I live on the Georgia State line about this far - from Alabama it's in my daughters geography book & I know about Bahia Grass, I had only one yard that had Bahia grass, my step fathers lawn. I did not put my equipment on bare spots or Bahia, my equipment cost too much & the extra maintenance was too much.
Extra Hard or tungsten carbide blades sound like the beginning of a real bad law suit. Please be careful...
People come into my shop every once in a while, they either build up the blade tips with extra hard welding rods or they weld an extra piece of metal on there to make the blades last longer...
The extra time involved isn't worth it and every once in a while the tip will break off. That's OK for them (Johnny Home Owner) I'm self employed and my business can't stand a liability like that?

Carbide is hard but brittle and will chip and crack fairly easy.
Now try to sharpen them it will wear you grinding wheel down,,,like now.
But, you could invest about $200 for a diamond wheel!
I often wondered if any one has ever played around with electro plating of blades or nitrate coating?
There is thousands of coating and platings out there.
