striping kit

I am new to the lawn care business and have considered purchasing a turf striper for my exmark Lazer z ct 52" deck. This is a very pricey item and I am not sure I want to invest the $300 for a steel roller. Can anybody give me some ideas or directions for making one out of chain?

Please note that the bearing loaded steel eXmark rollers can be found on ebay for much less than $300.
