  • blade edgers

I am planning on getting a stick edger this weekend. I am looking at redmax, shindaiwa, stihl, and echo. Which one is the best.

Do you really need it? A lot of LCO's do not use them here. I DO think they edge a hell of a lot nicer than string trimmer but a pain in the arse to me. That $$ may be spent on a more practical piece of equipment like bacpack blower, trimmer, blades, filters, belts, oil, gas cans, blade sharpener etc.

Why not just use a trimmer to edge with. If you have a steady hand you can edge with a trimmer and not tell the difference between a trimmer or edger job!

I've been using an Echo PE-200 for 8 years (yes the same machine, and yes I'm a part-time lawn guy) I wish I had more power, a lot more. I'm on the search as well. The old fashion walk behinds are very powerful, I just hate using them, too bulky for regular everyday use. Currently, ECHO makes the most powerful stick edger @ 30.5 cc. I seem to get customers needing/wanting a one time cut. What these people are really looking for is a cleanup job, the edging along their sidewalks/driveways haven't been maintained. It's just too much for a 21 cc engine. I'm anxious to get my hands on the ECHO PE-311. I'd still use my smaller edger for well maintained edges until it dies. I'm not saying ECHO is the best, but I've got a good history with them.

Stihl may make the largest edger at 31.5cc.
