  • Best Time To Purchase New Equipment

I've been shopping for new trimmers, edgers and blowers. Is there a time of the year that is better for getting a good deal? I'm not in a rush, just looking to get the best deal.

Also, I'm stuck deciding between ECHO and STIHL. I've heard that STIHL is more expensive if it needs repairs. I currently own ECHO products and have never had any trouble in the eight years I've owned them. STIHL seems like it might be a better product, plus it makes larger engines for each application.

Generally speaking, it would depend on the size of your purchase. If you're looking for onesy-twoseys, you'll probably not find a huge discount, unless you're a real good and loyal customer of your dealer. An exception might be in the winter, when a dealer is looking to unload some items that he doesn't want to carry through until spring.....but nowdays dealers are able to control their inventories through reorders that wasn't so true in the past.

As far as engine size, remember.....it is just that....a unit of size, not performance. Stihl has a reputation in the industry for underpowered engines for their size, so I wouldn't look at engine size solely to make a buying decision.

I'll ask you the same question that I've asked many other people.....if your current brand has given you 8 years of trouble free operation, why in the world would you even consider changing now?

Yeah, at least I'm enjoying the ride.

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna stick with ECHO. You've answered my questions.

I asked this question last year and someone brought out the point that the warranty starts when it leaves the dealer...

Easy work around. Have your dealer sign the warranty card at purchase and you send it in shortly before you begin to use the equipment. If warranty requires a receipt, have the dealer write you out one with the date at a mutually agreed upon date in the future.
