There are many different types of Walk-behinds. Basically any commercial mower company produces their own version of a walk-behind. And to tell you the truth, they are very close feature wise.

That being said, depending on the use and sizes of areas you will be using your walk-behind on, some are better fitted to suit your needs than others.

To properly make a decesion on the type of walk-behind you need, I will need more information. Namely, how many yards do you have? What sizes are they, and do many of them have back yard gates? The size of mower you need will vary depending on these things.

Get back with more info, and we will further discuss...
We do the impossible, because it limits the competition

All commercial WBs are about the same. The only differences are usually controls or the engines. Some have ergo controls, some have pistol grip it all depends on your preference. I personally prefer Kawasaki engines. The only REAL issue is whether you are buying a belt drive or a hydro.

Fixed deck is good on smaller mowers 32"-36". Floating decks on 48" and up. Floating decks on the smaller mowers are not very useful so it's not worth the extra money to buy one. Fixed decks are (usually) integrated into the frame, so they cannot be changed later on. On the other hand... You can buy a floating deck 36" and put a 48" on it later... One of the reasons floating deck models usually come with a higher HP engine is to drive the optional larger deck (usually fixed decks are 13HP while floaters are 15HP (at least with brands that use Kawa engines.)

I think they ALL need the same PM regardless of brand or deck type.

It just boils down to price/preference. As long as it's a commercial model you should be okay. Honestly if you research the specs you'll see they are mostly built from exactly the same parts regardless of brand.

Inman if you are going to buy a wb...I would not recommend the Toro 32 Proline...This is what I use (when I start back up)...and it is a fine machine ..just small...wish I would have at least gone to 36...next season I will go bigger ...bigger is not better just faster and in this biz as anything else time is money...Thats just my opinion ..but there are pro's on here with better and more info then I could ever provide

Exmark Turf Tracers are hard to beat! The Exmarks have a patented deck design, which results in a superior vaccum. This feature pulls the grass up and yields a perfect cut. Some great add on features include; ECS controls, the Micro-Mulch System, 3 Bushel Side-bagger, and the E-Z rider sulky. Once you get used to the controls of a hydro, add the Exmark Turf Striper. This one little feature will take your image to the next level of professionalism. Shhh!

                Encore

Encore are junk!? They are basically rebadged gravelys (same engine, deck, transmission and warranty. The only differences lie in the belts and hydro is standard on the gravely. I have had 6 encore units going on 4 seasons of heavy use and haven't had to touch them other than blade sharpening and oil changes. I have talked to gravely veteran service mechanics and they all agree that the encore units are extremely well built units with a strong warranty for the price. I sold all of my toros because they are overpriced pieces of junk. The steering is the only good thing about the toros but the damn pumps go out at least once a season to the tune of $$$. I have had nothing but problems with all of my toro units.
