stihl 550 blower

i am thinking about buying a reconditioned stihl 550 blower. it is six months old and it had a failure in the blower impeller which was repaired by stihl under warranty. it is being sold for about half the price of new. any comments on this blower.

The work is only as good as your dealer who you are buying it from.

Sithl is a great name, and they make good products, for sure.

I doubt it went back to a distributor, and was done right in thdealers shop. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

The warranty going to re-start?

when i was at the dealer the actual blower had just arrived in a box with stihl labelling on it so i gather it was repaired by stihl and not the dealer.

The 550 is quiet compared to the 600; if this is what you are looking for a reconditioned impeller is easy for a tech to replace.
1/2 price should be about $200. My BR-600s were $420 deliverd price, and others have purchased it for less.
For $200 I would buy it just to shoot air at the cats!

The 550 is very weak. This units compares to the outdated BR 400 series in power. The 600 is stronger but still not nearly as powerful as the Redmax 8000.

Stihl a good deal...

There is always a compromise of power vs. db or noise level reduction. If you have to have a quieter operating device then this may be the blower for you. At 1/2 price it is a great deal.

The RedMax vs. Stihl debate is on several other threads. I opted for the Stihl and found it does the job for me very well

If Jack D. likes the RedMax 8000, go for it. Probably look good on that new truck, if you use it for work.
