  • Honda HRX 217

Everybody gave me a hard time about buying the HRX-217HXA, but I gotta say I'm really loving the mower... If it does break like some have predicted then I'll replace it with an HRC 216 HXA...

Aside from my other million favorite things I like about the mower I got to experience another benefit of those double blades today... I mowed two yards with it today, and thought the mower was getting heavier throughout the day... I keep the thing on mulch all the time, and one of the reasons I got it was because one of my customers demands I bag during late summer/fall, and he can't tell with the way the Honda works that I'm actually mulching more of the grass than bagging. Back to today... After getting unloaded for the day I decided to empty the bag (even on full mulch a little gets past the door), and got a shock when I lifted the bag off... It was 3/4 full!!! I realized what had happened then... Last week I opened it up to full bag to clear clippings that get caught behind the mulch door, and never set it back to mulch. So, I bagged both of those yards today... Why I'm so excited about it??? With the John Deere JS63C I used to use it always took 3 bags on one of these yards, and I'm completely tickled that on full bag it did both and only used 3/4 of the bag... I was taking about 1 1/2" off the grass too, so it's not like I wasn't cutting anything. It was actually going in the bag too in case anyone wants to suggest the baffle was blocked... I checked it and it was clean and clear.

I agree with Jeff, I have used mine only for the past 2 weeks, but first pull and off you go. As Jeff pointed out, you can adjust the amount to bag and mulch by simply reaching down and moving the knob one way or the other, 5 seconds max! If someone demands that their high grass be bagged, you simply move the knob about in the middle and you end up cutting your bagging time in half and they get "a little mulch" blended in to their great looking lawn. I'm just starting, but no complaints so far with this machine. A woman customer I had today looked down and said "what a nice looking shiny green knob you have, my craftsman don't have one of those". I explained to her that I was bagging and fertilizing her lawn at the same time with that shiny green knob. lol
