  • Need a good set of hedge clippers

I have just started my lawn company. I am using a set of hedge clippers I had laying around my house. I have worn them out in the last 2 months. I am looking for a good set that is not too expensive. Any suggestions?

Are you talking manual hedge shears.....or the gas powered type?

I just got a Tanaka THT-2100 for about $224. They are just about as good as Shins, but much cheaper. Lightweight and starts every time. runs well too.

Do you know anything about the Tanaka THT-210S trimmer? Is the 210S better than the 2100? I'm considering the Tanaka, but was set on a Stihl. HS 80 or 81 maybe.

I use a Echo HC-1500. Soon I'll buy another hedge trimmer....but probably not a Echo. Nothing wrong with them....just all I've ever used (this is the second one I've owned). Perhaps a Stihl or Shindaiwa this time around? I want something which can be serviced and/or parts purchased locally.

I have the 210S and it is one of the best I have used. Easy starting and locking rotating handle by pushing a button.

                      Great trimmer...

Hey thanks for all the info. I found a set of Shindaiwa DH230 24"for $250 they are only a year old the only reason he is selling them is he wants the 30" trimmers. Do you think that is a reasonable price?

NO. The main reason to get new is because of how sharp they are.

Do yourself a favor and go spend $269 for an Echo HC-150.....new. They will run for years and years, and take any abuse you can give them. We have pairs that are over 8 years old and have been beat to heck. Once they start to dull out, then we use them to do dormant pruning on grasses and anything thick. Honey suckles, forsythia, burning bushes, etc. Even when dull, they will chew through 1" thick stuff.

I think we had 13 pair before a little robbery we had 3 weeks ago. ALL of them ran just fine. We did take the little exhaust screen out of the muffler after about a year or so. I can't ever recall putting a spark plug in any of them or a new air filter. But they all ran like beasts. Give them a good break in period and you will be pleased.

Go with the Shindaiwa before you get Echo. I have the Tanaka THT-2100and got them for about $224 brand new. Shin was my first choice and Tanaka second. Price is what steered me on the 2100's. My dealer who sells Shin, Tanaka, Stihl and Echo rated them in that exact order. Even being a year old I bet they are still sharp. I'd offer him $200.
