You won't go wrong with the Stihl BR400. Probably one of the best designed back packs ever. (and I'm not really a Stihl fan). We've got many of them. I listened to other folks tell me about how much better an Echo is or Kawasaki is. So, I thought I would try one. I bought the largest Kawasaki model. Well, to put it simple, it sucks. Yeh, I'm sure it moves a bit more air, but not really usable air. It is suppose to move like 30% more air, but the tube is around 30% larger. So you don't notice much. I can see that it MAY move more leaves. But, the main problem is how stiff the hose is on the Kaw. I can not easily swing it a full 180 degrees to the left and right. The Stihl is great for that and ends up letting you put the air exactly where it is needed a lot quicker.
The Kawasaki has a thinnner back which is not as comfortable because it doesn't cover your whole back. The back straps are sewn together at the top which makes it harder to put on. The on/off switch is upside down versus the Stihl. Stop is up, so when you swing the Kaw on your back, you can easily hit the switch to off. It runs good, but not instant torque.
I'll never buy anything else but the Stihl. The Kaw was a waste of $$ in my opinion.
Zephyr, I owe you an e-mail, it's coming!!

The Sthil BR400 is a fair choice. Light, large fuel tank openining, durable. But it has a poor air filtration system, is underpowered, & with no primer does not start as easily as the Echo.
If you need to move high volume leaves or debris with a BP get an Echo650, Shin, or Redmax.

I had an Echo 430 for a week, didn't seem to get the results that I wanted but for $160 you have a deal. I'm assuming it's used.
Like Zack said the Echo 630 the machine, played with in the parking lot but the price tag was too steep for me and the dealer wouldn't budge off the sticker price.
