  • Need a new trimmer, Redmax or Echo

I've been using a Weed eater trimmer and it time to go commercial. I think that I would like to get a Redmax trimmer because my Redmax 8001 blower works great. But my nearest Redmax dealer is almost 10 mile away and they don't keep the Redmax products in stock. So I would have to order it.

I never owned an Echo so I don't know how good they are. But the hardware store power center where I do a lot of my business is only 2 miles away and has Echo trimmers in stock. Plus the salesmen always gives me a better deal on the price.

Would it be worth traveling 10 miles out of my way to order a Redmax trimmer or would an Echo be just as good?

Having had both I would travel 10 miles for a Redmax just about any day.
I am not knocking Echo but I like the power of the Redmax trimmer better.

Whichever way you go Enjoy. :alien:

Echo has turned into a high end home-owner piece of equipment and Redmax is one of the premier inovators in 2-cycle commercial equipment. Not to say that echo doesnt have a nice product. They've just dumbed it down so that the price fits into the larger stores. (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) Your decision can be based on weather cost or longevity is your primary concern. (Echo costs less, Redmax Lasts longer)

i run echo everything and have never seen any of the equipment i have in any store other than dealers. i don't care what you get, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. other than normal maint., i've never had a problem with my echos. i got two trimmers, 1 hand held blower, 1 backpack, 1 stick edger and 1 set of hedge trimmers. put the right mixture in them and change your plugs and filters when needed and no problem at all.

I will say that my experience is that the Echo gear from Home Depot type stores is apparently NOT the same as you'd get from a dealer. I haven't checked model #s, but can say that everyone that buys from an Echo dealer seems to have no troubles. My partner had an Echo trimmer and blower from HD that we used for roughly a year before they both fell apart (almost literally) within a few weeks of each other and I wound up pulling out my credit card to refit us with Stihl which I'm still using almost 3 years later.

So I'd buy Echo from a dealer, but not from a big box store... That stuff at HD is made for the homeowner who wants to pretend he's a pro. Don't know if they may or may not also sell the same models at a dealer, but I'd check before buying. See what models HD is stocking, and if they have the same models at your dealer I'd buy whatever was at least a step higher in the line.

But... As Steve said... I have an Echo dealer a few miles from me, and I've never seen any of the HD models in there either.

I would go Redmax because you already have RM blower. If Echo, then get the 260 with steel shaft if they still make it. My dealer said they don't make steel shaft anymore for Echo????? Not sure if this is true because the website still shows the 260S.

I've come to notice that most purchasers of Echo equipment are first timers and bought off of name recognition. As a seasoned veteran of this industry as an end user of the equipment and as a dealer, I've used just about everything there is out there. Accross the board, weather purchased from Home Depot or not, Echo will not stand up as long as the true commercial brands. (i.e. Stihl, Redmax, Shindaiwa, etc.) I cant impress upon you enough that price should be your only consideration for purchasing an Echo.

that's your opinion and that's ok. i bought echo and exmark after carefully studying this forum. no problems as i said earlier. echo and stihl are at most of the dealers around here. i've never seen a redmax here and today i saw my first shindaiwa while checking out aerators. to each his on.

Once again, it appears as if you dont have the option to purchase some of the other premier commercial lines in your area. Working in a market that cuts all year is alot different than an area that has several months of an "off" season. I would also like to emphasize that Echo makes a fine product. It's just not up to the quality and standards of the other strict commercial brands. Your opinion only carries so much weight when you only own and use one line. Doesnt exactly afford you a wealth of experience on the equipment in question.

i'm totally satisfied with echo. i stick to one product line period. they all use the same plugs, filters etc. same thing with my 3 mowers. what makes you such an expert on this? being a dealer you are gonna spin whatever product line you sell. a guy yesterday was doing the same thing telling me i should have bought gravely mowers instead of exmark. why, because that's what he sells. your opinion only carries so much weight as well. i use these products day in and day out. how bout you ????? i would say i'm in a very good position to spin echo and exmark.

To briefly list my qualifications, I've worked in the commercial lawn maintenance industry for 20 years now and my father has owned the dealership that I now run for 15 years. I've logged many hours on all sorts of different equipment. Not to turn this into an arguement but, if you recall the original question in the posting, it inquired as to weather he should purchase an echo or a Redmax. You've dont have knowledge of both products so you have no platform with which to base your opinion. You like what you own and thats wonderful. However, as you stated, you only have experience with a single line so there isnt much basis for you to post in a thread looking for a good comparison of a product. If you're going to post a reply to someones question, make sure it is truly meant for the benefit of the thread starter and not just your agenda.

With that being said, I've had good luck with husqvarna trimmers. Now I also use echo equipment, primarily the blower line, & have had good luck with their larger blowers. To say that they are not meant for commercial use would be ludicrous, as the 755 echo blowers will take day in & day out use. Have you used them yourself personally 8-12 hrs a day? I have, & am not here to blow smoke. I post real life results, no bs, in order that maybe someone else may benefit from it. If I have run into issues with certain types & pieces of equipment, I post that as well.My .02.
