I was wondering if anyone else here has started using the new 4mix 4stoke stihl products yet and what they think of them,or still products in general,the ones i am looking at are

fs100rx string trimmer 4mix
hl100k hedge trimmer 4mix

I own several of the 4 mix uints, including the HT-100 pole trimmer and the BR 600 blower and no problem at all with them. Normal use related items only.

I dont see why you cant run any old oil in those 2 stroke wannabees with valves putting out half the power....

They seem from what i`v read to be somewhat high maintenance like having to adjust the valves every few hours and regular decarbonization so if they expect people to do all this needed maintenance as often as they do i wouldn't spend excessive money on oils...

I`m going by what i`v heard not by experience but i told a friend who has one to forget about adjusting the valves until it doesn't run right "because the valves are no longer seating properly" or its ticking excessively meaning you have to adjust the valves, and ditch the decarbonization by spraying water in the carb at high RPM until the chunks blow out....

The old saying dont fix it if it ain't broke sounds like what they should put in the manual....

He uses 2 cycle or 4 cycle straight weight "whatever oils laying around" philosophy and hasn't had a problem as of yet that he` mentioned....

If you get a chance can you post the scheduled maintenance and how many hours to do so , and what kind of money is the 4 mix going for????

I have bought two of the four mixes to use and see how they hold up. I have most all of the good old 80R two strokes.

First off, they seem to be heavier and do not balance in your hands as well. Second off, I have changed the ignition coil on one of them, and the other one is at the shop with what I think is the same problem.

You have to run mid grade gas in them to keep all the carbs and mufflers from gettng gunked up.

The good thing about them is they seem to have very high torque with the throttle only half open.

They cost about 300 dollars here. Like a 12 dollar difference between them and the two strokes.

I have done nothing different at all from my other 2 strokes. Everything is fine.

That is wierd. I've never had that happen before.

Cheap lines or the engine or somthing near the lines is cooking them...

Are the cooling fins clean ??? I would check

The ends connecting to the fuel tank are what split. I can only guess excessive vibrations caused this? I'm not too happy either way. It's been down for bout two weeks now b/c I haven't had much time to deal with it. Meanwhile I'm relying on my old Solo BP unit, not exactly cool.

I disassembled the damn unit b/c at first I thought the muffler was plugged up with carbon deposits. Nope, screen was clean as can be. So then I took the carb off to give it a good cleaning. Also checked the spark plug. I reassembled and same problem. It was then that I noticed the fuel line problem. So now I gotta disassemble again to yank the fuel lines off so I can buy the proper size. Fins are clean.

I got the items that I listed and am happy so far,the bg85 hand held blower is much better than echo's hand held,the hl100k is great so far,the fs100rx string trimmer is very powerful,I have used the trimmer the most and its working better after some serious breaking in,I was a little worried about it the first few times I used it,they all have funny gas lines but the air filters are great much better than echo once again,was warned by dealer about carbon buildup so I use only premium chevron at 3.21 a gallon right now out here in cali and good 2stroke
all in all I am happy,less down time so far and more power but it was about a thousand bucks for all there

Don't know much about the 4mix but the fuel lines on two of my stihl products have leaked. It is the green ones that have the flange that goes into the tank combining the pickup and return line that leaked, and the fact that the new lines were a different color makes me think the green material was not up to par. It just seemed to be breaking down fromthe gas and oil. I have replaced the line on the handheld and need to do it one the tiller. Replacement lines were black, I believe, not green. I suspect the green were prone to failure. Handheld leaked within a year or thereabouts, tiller took two.
