Bigger engines, do they save gas over a smaller engine on the same piece of eqt?

Say you have a 52" ZTR with a 23 HP engine. Would replacing the 23 HP engine with a new 28 HP engine save fuel?

I say no, others say yes.....what is your thought?

I would say look at it this way:

Less time mowing less time goign over somethign or slowing down with a more powerful motor so in all less gas?

Maybe you would not save fuel.

About the same, the bigger motor does not have to work as hard so its running very economically.

I have heard of folks pulling 6 cylinders out of trucks and replacing with v8's and saving fuel for the above reasons (does it easier without strain etc )

The savings (if any) won't be enough to even make it worth your while.

The engines on our mowers are old school. Too loud, gas hogs, etc.

You've heard me say it before, we should be getting more for our $8000.

Heck, what power is put out by a Hyundia 4cyl car engine just off idle? How long would it run with 12 gallons of gas? A lot longer than my 25hp Kohler putting out 25hp. Cost? The Hyundai is cheaper.

Hopefully, it's just a matter of time before someone does it.

Mr. Scapy, Do it. Go buy a KIA and stick a deck under it. Then let us know how it works.

that's why I love the Honda 24HP I got on one of my Y/K riders, that thing does great on gas while even powering a 61" deck. The 25HP Kohler I got on the other though likes to drink it a little more.

Nah, just downsize that Kia engine a little bit, not much. Do away with all the power this and power that taking up room under the hood and you have a fairly small engine.

                Strap that puppy to ZTR!

No where near as loud either.
