  • Stihl Bg55 Blower

What kind of luck, if any have ya'll had with the Stihl BG55 hand held blower? Looking to supplement my backpack with something smaller and easier to use for those little jobs. Any and all info appreciated!!!

Hate handhelds personally. The only time I could see one being useful is behind pushes or something. Even then...

Anyway, had them at the golf course. Seem to remember they were a real pain to start after a while. All the handhelds were.

I bought mine used just to see if it was worth anything and was plesantly surprised.

I have been using the BR-55 along with the 600s for a couple years.

Great for quick clean ups. I will buy another when this one dies.

Dream you are correct-it is a PIA to start. So is my FS-250.

If your talking cold start on newer equiptment here's the problem for the past few years that's getting worse....

I notice everything now is coming with choke plates that have giant holes drilled in them for emission B.S on start up......

Very dumb as they always did have holes but the newer machines have holes about 10 times the size they used to making them unable to pull the fuel when cold unless you yank away till your dead....

Kinda like starting an older model with the choke half open !!!!!!

I just bought a new generator and the hole was so big the machine wouldn't start period..... Put my finger over the hole and pulled it half speed with my bad arm and it fired right up so the plate came out and got a careful braze job and bingo it starts 1st pull every-time...

Notice it on everything newer now and they all get swapped or massaged...

If you can get an older choke plate or braze or even plug the hole with a little nut and bolt then smash the threads so it wont fall out into the engine you'll find they`ll start on the 1st pull.....

        JUST some info....

Went and got the BG55 the other day, I was surprised at the power it had. It also starts on the second pull. I will let you know how it holds up. Thanks for the info.

I think you'll like the 55. I use mine on every job. Seldom use my backpack during normal cutting season.
