Drug my back pack blower out today. It took 6 pulls to start it, always starts on the 3rd pull. What can I do so that I only have to pull it 3 times ? Is the gas bad ? It only sat since November. Same gas as then.
    Any ideas ?

go shop around till you get one that starts on 3 pulls. i would sell you my 751, but it only takes 2 pulls after sitting through the winter, so you wouldn't want no crap like that.

Iv had to repair many machines , be it small engines , or large truck engines where people didnt follow proper storage procedures.....

Now stable iv found works OK compared to nothing, but sometimes still allows deterioration of the evaporating gas to leave varnish on carburetor jets, and leading to sticking piston rings.... I personally wouldn't allow extended storage intervals , and dont trust the small amount of stabil now advertised as a protectent in overpriced 2 stroke oils to keep my snow blower or chainsaw in tip top running condition over the summer storage time....

Yes im now in FL , but hail from upstate NY!!!!!!

High temp storage ," i believe" during the summer ,is the cause of the large #`s of trouble , because high summer temps evaporate more fuel over the summer months , leaving varnishy gunk to build up quickly in items such as snow blowers and saws in the time frame of less then 6 months in some cases....

Up north i would be repairing many snow blowers , compared to mowers stored for the same time interval , but during different seasons.....

Winter in FL has temps similar to summer up north .....so i win either way down here with old fuel caused problems that make me $$$$$$..........

I have however always drained the fuel system completity on units that must sit idle for months , and had zero problems when it came time to bring them back to life....

A year ago or so i took down a Genny set in need of rings that i (at the earlier time "was not" in need of anyway ), as i had plenty of other units available , and ended up storing said unit in my upstairs loft, and forgot about it for 10 years....

After finding my forklift down the street where somebody borrowed it , and forgot to return it, i used said forklift to bring down Genny set from upstairs loft where it was buried under much debris for said [10 or so years].....

Before pulling apart to re-ring , i wanted to make sure said Genny unit was the smoking unit i had previously remembered ,and after adding half a gallon of gas was quite impressed that it sprang to life on the first pull.....

          Still smoking i might add....::laughing:

If i hadn't completely drained the fuel system im sure that besides the need to replace the aging rings the carburetor would have had to have been dissembled and rebuilt.... Luckily even back then i always drained the fuel from anything i thought may sit over 6 months or so without being exercised.....

Iv purchased many many other Gennie sets ,and gas powered air compressors that would still not run after fixing whatever was actually wrong with them because they were left unused with old gas that basically turned to viscous varnish like sludge.....

If you cant just drain the gas and drop the bole( to get all the fuel out) before storing , i suggest pouring whatever gas is left in unit to be stored into nearest vehicle with room , then starting unit to be stored ,and allow it to run (on half choke) eating whatever fuel is still inside the tank , lines and carburetor until it is bone dry.....

Then attempt to restart it with full choke engaged and many times you will get the unit to fire for another few seconds( ensuring all fuel is removed ) and can cause no future harm....

When ready to be put back in service 100 years later ,refill drained unit with clean fuel , put on the choke , and allow a minute for fuel to fill carburetor or prime unit ,and i guarantee it will fire right up , and run as good as the day it was put in storage.......

Hopefully its stored where nothing will find it a comfy home in the meantime.................

That was rather longer then i intended , but i felt worth the effort , seeing so many otherwise new machines that are set out on the curb on garbage day when the owner was at fault , didnt follow storage advice set in owners manual , then leaves said units out for garbage calling units junk , because they didnt store unit correctly......

I always have mowers for sale at the local flea market come springtime ,and it is always because of old gas clogging the carb , or a flywheel brake that has seized due to corrosion.....

I thank these ignorant people , and could only wish i had more room for more of their ignorant caused trash , but for now just take what i see , and is easily available due to ignorant cause luck...

Luck is actually cause and effect......

Cause being old gas was left in them , clogged up the carb , and the effect is they dont start ,and are thrown out for the garbage man / "me" to use or sell costing me nothing .....

Most are otherwise like brand new , 1 year old , and generally have 20 or so hours on them.....

Tanky to the ignorant as they make me $$$$..............
