  • Toro's stand-on prototype

What do you guys think of this? http://toro.com/professional/lce/sta..._on_mower.html

Neat idea. Seems everyone is following suit. Wright, Great Dane/John Deere. Now Toro is getting on the action.

There are some neat features, like the operator platform that folds up. Still have a years wait to see what the production model will look like.

Why does it take so freakin' long for these companies to make things better?

It's like we're living in the 1960's with all these mower brands.

Wow, I even noticed they FINALLY made the gas tank fillable from the side!!! That's something that every mower should have had 75 years ago! The very first time I filled a walk behind when I was 14.......I wondered why the gas tank was designed the way it was.

I'm a big fan of Toro, but that stand on platform still needs some work. It needs to be adjustable to a persons height for one thing. It looks too high off the ground as it is. If they are going to make a stand on, then make it solely for that purpose. When that platform is folded up, it's going to be a knee cap crusher.

There are many ways to make the stand on a better unit. But the designers need to start from scratch, not keep retrofitting mowers that were designed 30 years ago.

P.S. - If mower designers were inventing new things in the automotive field, we would just now be getting power steering (maybe).

i think the idea is pretty cool. so far i haven't used a stand-on. but in the future this might be an option for me. i'm gonna guess it'll be cheaper than the wright standers which is something i like. i can't nor do i want to be dumping 8-10 thousand dollars on any mower, ever. i try to keep the costs down as much as possible and i'm sure a toro stander (vs. a wright stander) would suite me just fine should i ever want one. not to mention i've always been extremely pleased with toro products.

What makes you say the Toro stand-ons will be cheaper than a Wright Stander? You can purchase a Wright Stander for less than $8000. I know, I purchase many of the mowers for our company, including Wright Standers. A Toro hydrostat walk behind runs close to $6000 last I knew, so I bet these new Toros will be around the $7300 mark. It sounds to me as if you are a Toro brand loyalist.

i'm a toro and exmark brand loyalist. i'll take either one over any other brand any time.

i'm just guessing the toro's will be cheaper than the wright standers but i could be wrong. it just seems to me the 2 cheapest brands of equipment i've come across is toro and exmark. i mean look at the prices of scags, walkers, dixie choppers, etc. when i compare prices they all seem to be higher than toro and exmarks.

i got my gear driven 36" wb for under $3,000 and my 52" hydro for $4,100 with the bagger, stripe kit, and stand on.

if your correct about the price it won't be a mower i'll buy. i'm not spending $7300 on a stand on mower, i can get a great exmark ztr for that price probably with accessories as well.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Sears has mowers much cheaper than your exmarks. Why aren't you buying them?

I use only standers right now and there is no way I would switch to one of those things. The tires look awfully small and that platform is way to high to feel comfortable going on hills.

Sometimes older technology is still used because it is better and simpler. Wright offers a floating adjustable deck now and I won't touch the stupid things.

i'm talking commericial equipment here. and i never ment to give off the impression that i'm looking for the cheapest. it's just when i'm going to buy a mower i do look heavily at price. the 2 brands that are the most affordable to me that give a quality cut are toro and exmark. currently i'm running all exmark.

if i'm gonna spend 7 grand or above it better be a mower thats going to last me a damn long time.

for a solo guy i can't be dumping that kind of money into mowers. i need something more around $4-7,000 tops.

I would never buy that thing. The tires are pathetic. They aren't even flat in the middle. It looks to me as if they took they're consumer zero turn and moved the engine forward and controls up. The tires are the same as they're consumer models. I couldn't imagine buying that. The flip up plat form is a great idea. But it definitely needs work. And alot of it. Like someone else said it's way too high. The suspension idea is a good one, but it's one more thing to break. That's what makes wright so good. They are extremely simple. Theres not a whole lot that can go wrong on them. Suck it up spend the extra thousand and make thousands more.
