  • Need some Exmark Advice

Okay guys, I could not imagine getting a new mower right now.

So with that being said, I saw this mower sitting out beside a guys house.

The motor top pull was off it was covered in pinestraw.

Well When I inquired about it to him he did not really have much to say that it just was too much and pulled his 70 year old body around.

After uncovering it from the pine straw it was an Exmark Metro 36" with Comercial deck.

It needs a new motor, new front wheel.

I had to cut the belts to get it to move. It needs greased everywhere.

Does anyone know of a good/economical place to buy some parts at so that I can get it up and running.

I mean lets say buy a new motor for 500 and miscellaneous parts fro 200 and have a new mower way cheaper than the 3k they go for.

The motor actually spins the blades by hand so all the pulleys move and are freed up!

Now the kicker is he GAVE it to me just to get it out of the side of the house!

Little rust, not much but excellent stuff.

it might not but the repair shop i took it too seems to think it will since the top cover is off and the oil dipstick tube was open allowing moisture to get in.

I might see if they can use another top off a mower to do a compression test on it.

i want it to be worthy to mow this year so if I need to spend a few hundred to get a great mower going. I will.

It is definetely something that i can and will use. So as they say a little money spent is money earned?

he said he could get a 17 briggs for 459.

the belts were frozen to the pulley as soon as we cut the belts and pulled it the wheels turned.

Some grease is definetly in order.

I am thinking nearly 700 to have basically a new mower.

So the deck is not new but the heart (motor) will be.

the motor turned by hand on top turned the blades thus meaning the belt and the deck pulleys were in working shape.

I am goign to call him tomorrow and see if he can do a compression test on the motor that is there and possilby see what it would take to do a carb rebuild and get the litle parts that are astray.

A 12.5 horse briggs i/c will do you just fine.....they used to stock those mowers with 11 horse engines back in the 80s.....now everyone thinks they need massive power when they really don't. I restored an old 36" bobcat and installed a 10.5 horse briggs and it still have plenty of power to spare, cut like it was new as well.

landscaperpro.com, mowmore.com, and j-thomas.com are all good sources for parts. Those old belt drives are butt easy to wrench on.

tulsaenginewarehouse.com is a good place for an engine.

          good luck.
