Best cutting trimmer line at .155 diameter

I know this is in the database somewhere but I can not find it.

Scarry but I found some really good octagon shaped .155" line at HD.

There has to be better stuff out there.

What do you guys recommend? I am using the tri-lead head on a Stihl FS 250

Been a while since I Weed Whipped. My style of Weed Whipping didn't really need a strong line. I only leveled the grass to the same height as the mower, no scalping. But for really ruff areas of heavy woody weeds I found Piano wire to cut clean and last a long time. But be careful because it can also cut your foot off.

.095 gator line (round) even stands up to chain link fence well. I had the gator (square) and broke three shafts in two months. It would vibrate and wobble. since swithing to round i have had no issues. The .095 gator is actually thicker than say echo .095, almost the same as .115. I dont know why. the metal in the line really last a long time.

i'm with ya there ric, no scalping on my end either. just level with the mower height. i just use standard .95 line. i got some large spool at lowes. whatever's cheapest. so far i haven't found a trimmer line that "sucks" IMO. they all cut the grass like there suppose to and thats all i ever use the trimmer for anyway.

You like most of the unwashed masses, you don't understand Decimals or Factions. 0.095 is smaller than 0,115. Now let me explain this fact in language you MIGHT understand. If $ 10.00 was one inch. 0.095 would be like 95 cent of that ten dollars. 0.115 would be a Dollar fifteen cent. Most commercial weed whips spec 0.080 to 0.095 line.

As for your personal problem, Just keep telling yourself "it is how you wiggle the worm" Tell her "It might be small, But at least it is cute". Because she Knows the first statement is BS.

however i was going by mr spotremix's post of .95. thank you for your concern though. i use .095 myself on my echos. i think it is called cross-ric or fire or somthing like that.

.080 weedeater brand............ Cheap and does a great job.......... Local schmuck for a dealer charges 43.00 a roll when wally mart has those little 5lbs rolls at about 15.00...........
You know whats ashamed, most lawnturds pay there help under the table has no workers comp or general liability or commercial auto. Yet will drive around with 3 new z's on the trailer and the most expensive trimmer line made.... Go figure.................

I have excellent help and pay then very well (not my son but he doesn't count...) and try to use the best equipment I can afford or makes sense. My guy gets what he needs to get the job done and I am not afraid to pay extra to make sure he is happy. If he is out there working his butt off and wants a better line I will buy it in a second.

I am using Stihl .105 "X Line" in my Shin 231 and Home Depot "Power Care Maxi Edge" , no not Pad Steve-o , .155 octogon line on my FS-250 when it is not armed with a tri-blade.

There simply has to be something better then HD stuff, but so far this seems to be the best????

My guys used to like .065 because they said it gave them a cleaner cut on St Augustine grass, Which is a low fiber grass. It also worn out fast, so we kept extra spoils prefilled. When I Weed Eat, It is like walking the dog. I walk fast and don't scalp. This only after first edging with a stick edger. We also used a sprinkler head cutter and diagonally mowed a cross cut. This might sound a little anal to most of the unwashed masses reading here. But Quality work is it's own advertisement. After my first year in business, Yellow pages was my only advertisement. When I went back in the Fert & squirt business only, part time after selling my business and the non compete ran out, I never advertised. Ironically while typing this post I got a call. I pre qualified him by quoting $ 75 a treatment (my Minimum) at 8 treatments per year. The man has a 100 X 110 lot on a canal with what I am sure is a large house with pool. Maybe 5 K of turf. I will be Looking at his property tomorrow. BTW He saw a customers yard (a retired NFL Kicker) and stopped to ask.

Buster course line can last longer but also has a tendency to tear the grass. Tearing causes more damage than cutting. In top notch yards I prefere to cut the blade of grass.

In alleys and low maintence Thick course line.

I have never tried piano wire.

I keep muliti sided .08 line and a little heavy round line on the truck. I use the heavy line for what I call grinding. I use both for cutting the grass to the ground with a string trimmer. If I have a lot of grinding I go to the heavier line.

Some line is cheaper than others and will break off and wearout faster whatever its thickness. Plastic can be brittle for many reason a couple are air and sunlight and poor manufaturing processes or design.

The best line I ever used.....ever.....was square lime green/yellow and sold through Lesco. I believe it was badged Lesco brand as well.


The sad thing is that they stopped selling it quite a few years ago.


They went with Kawasaki brand, which was pretty good as well.

Now they have some other brand that isn't too good.




Well, about 2.5 weeks ago I was going through a mowing truck cleaning it out and found THE LAST 30' of the old lime green line I just mentioned. It must have been 5 yrs old? I put it in my trimmer and a tear rolled down my cheek after the first lawn I used it on. Great stuff.


Matter of fact, I was just going to start a thread tomorrow asking if anyone knows where I can still get that stuff. I mean really really good stuff. If I find any, I will send you some.
