  • I choose to pollute this planet as opposed to filling up landfills...

I'll be damned, my other Stihl FS90R developed valve problems, just like the other one did. I tried to adjust the valves a little, nothing worked a miracle. It's possible it's still under warranty. Either way, I don't care to keep them. Both FS90R units I have are junk...as I see it. One shouldn't have to baby their 2-cycle equipment to keep it going........................

So I tossed down $600 and bought myself two new FS80R trimmers. Yeah, the good stuff before the EPA ruined 2 cycle engines. Always had good luck with the 80s, now I got two new ones to play with. Sweet.

I have told you 7 million times.....Stihl trimmers are not very good. Their blowers and chainsaws are sweet, trimmers? nah.

Yep!! Stock up. I read they are going to discontinue FS250.

Even 2cycle stuff are getting colder nature. Redmax, Echo etc. has been accused to be hard to start and need warmup. My Shindy 242 is still ok and I think only Husqvarna 326 still have the good old pre CARB engine. Might consider stock up a few before they all disappeared!!!

I read their 4Mix blower have their share of valve issue. Better use synthetic oil!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the 85's the same as the 80's just with a solid shaft vs. cable shaft?

Stihl designs with practicality in mind.

For a moment I considered going with a different brand this time around, however, I had great experiences with the FS80 trimmers. I esp love the autocut heads, even Timmy could figure out how to re-spool the head with line....very quick too.

Ironically I have a Redmax trimmer in the shop that I really don't use. I love it's weight and engine performance, but despise the head, along with the mysterious shock the engine will give ya......

Have an Echo 210 trimmer in the shop. Too squirrely. Loop handle poor for edging with. Grass shield too narrow. Echo engines are fine however.

Also have the new Shindaiwa trimmer a customer gave me, though I only use it at home. Don't appreciate their heads either nor the ginormous grass shields on those.

So even with my limited experiences with other brands, I favor the old skool Stihls.....mainly for the 'minor' reasons... :alien::alien::alien:

You have customer giving you a new trimmer??!! You don't like the Shindaiwa speed feed head? I like the big shield because I hate stuff hitting my legs. I even wonder why Echo and Redmax make their shield so narrow!!

Of cause FS80/85 is a great trimmer, don't think anyone can say other wise. Too bad they don't sell it in the People's Republic of Kalifornia!!!
