  • it's the time to buy well used lawn equipment

Found a 20 year old "trim" mower on the CL.

Pound for pound and dollar for dollar this machine will make you more $$$ than any other in an urban setting.

I will post a photo at 8pm EST.

Until then you may guess at what model this machine my be.

So I will give you some hints. It's a Toro commercial and the price is $35.

      Thanks for your interest.

Unfortunately the watch bats in my san disk flash path reader have expired.

Check back tomorrow after I get back from walmart.

But as a teaser this machine would be the equivalent in the 2009 Toro lineup.

Not only did I pickup the 1986 version of the above for $35 I also picked up another 1987 Toro consumer push mower with a 2 cycle Suzuki engine with very little hours of operation and super clean for $10 on the ride home.

The mower on the left is the $35 commercial model of 1986 vintage=no zone start, no blade brake, no nonsense side discharge only. Tires are like new my guess it has 100 hours total usage. I had to install a new air cleaner, carb, and fuel tank to get it to run like a top. I picked it up near Hershey and the recoil starter was broke. The recoil starter in the picture is one I had in stock.

The mower on the right I picked up near Reading on the way home. It is a 1987 consumer push side discharge with an aluminum deck. This Suzuki engine is so clean you can eat off it with maybe 50 hours total usage. With a new set of commercial tires and wheels ($60) this can go into commercial service. I paid just $10 for this machine and it runs 100%!!!!

There are tens of thousands of homes in the Wyoming Valley on lots of 50 x 150 or less.

Now on top of that 7500 square foot lot is a home, a driveway, double detached garage, patio, and landscaping leaving less than 5k of turf to maintain.

One 36" walkbehind weights more and takes up the same space as three 21" mowers.

My plan was to use the one of the engines in those push models to repower one of my two 1989 3 speed self propelled commercial recycler 21" mowers but they are to good to dismantle.

Plus I have these late 1980's consumer Toro 21"s (another big $45 investment) with 4hp 4 cycle engines (along with shed full of other 21"s and handheld equipment plus a 1985 LWB GM pickup w/ steel ladder rack/leaf box) at my partners location in Wilkes-Barre.

I live 17 miles away towards the Poconos and handle the suburbs using mid size hydro walks.

Is that my Corona 22-DK Kerosene heater in the background?

Ron Howard: Is that... vodka... and wheat grass?
Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

I had to replaced the foam air cleaner on the commercial machine and give it a good bath. The previous owner told me he got it for free not running and fixed some simple fuel delivery issues. Then he used it for the last seven years then sold it to me for $35. He just got a newer self propelled 21" lawn boy for free also and this mower was excess to his needs.

I took the extra blade I received with the commercial model and put that on the consumer machine. That's all that machine needed.

While it was in the forties today I took them both outside and fogged them both. Fogging to me is running the machine with 24 to 1 fuel laced with sea form before putting them to sleep for the winter. I don't drain the carbs as not to dry out the needle, seat and gaskets.

With a little elbow grease you can have those old chunks of kobe beef looking like new....

Locally at least, for a while in the early 80's we (toro) were a distributor for Kero-Sun heaters. I still keep warm next to one in my shop from bitd.
