  • Gas hedge trimmer....

I'm tired of my Echo garbage. I have two of them HC1500(150) trimmers. One isn't too old but has been problematic since day one. The other crapped out last year and I haven't even bothered to look at it. I assume all it needs is a good carb cleaning. Either way, it's my **** trimmer -- left dull for a reason.

Looking for a new hedge trimmer - what do y'all recommend?

I am a man of Stihl and carry a HC45 that provides Edward Scissorhands type topiary work while the HS80 is a weapon of mass destruction.

I run Echo bkpk blowers, but I don't use their hedgetrimmers. The Stihl HS 81 or similar models are the way to go.

      Echo hedge trimmers are garbage

What's the point of good service if the product sucks to begin with? My Echo dealer is decent, but they really push this Echo junk above all else. I'm considering the Stihl HS 81T. This will leave my existing Echo trimmers to chew through the nasty stuff....

We mainly use the 26" redmax on the short shaft boom got 4 of dem. I have one shindaiwa on da boom. and two sthil on da boom and one hs81.
The shindaiwas I do not care for..... The sthils are used for roughcutting. The hs81 are used for all types of work. The redmax cut like a razor and are the schit on boxwoods and the like but they do not like roughcutting (teef breakage can be an issue there-They wind up looking like Steve-o's mouf after a while), Redmax are #1 preffered by The RAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree with the rat. My redmax cuts through stuff like butter, though my blades need sharpening soon. I have the extended reach ones that articulate; I have the Echo-style PAS system, and it works great. I can reach almost 5' I believe.

                          The Redmax.....

The Stihl is available with two different teeth, one for shearing and one for 'rejuvenating' pruning. Anyone have experience with one or the other, primarily the shearing model?

I'm open to Redmax, but my local dealer doesn't even have one piece of Redmax equipment in stock. They're Echo fans. :alien::alien::alien:

I read a lot of posts about Redmax have lots of issue in cold start and warmup. Takes a long time and keep pulling and pulling.

I have Shindaiwa M242 with short reach articulate hedge attachment. I like it a lot. It is just as easy to control as the regular hedge trimmer plus the benefit of more comfortable and reach higher.

The 242 engine is not strato charged so it is not cold nature and easy to start. Always 3 pull cold start and 30 second idle and is ready. Warm start is single pull. I had a second one and behave exactly the same.

I use a Stihl HT-100 with both articulated trimmer head and a power sythe. They both have the same teeth but shorty has a huge gear box for going under fences or thru really tough stuff.
I would probably be out of business without this piece of equipment. I also use the 12" chain saw attachment.
I probably have $800 or $900 tied into it and would not think twice about buying another 'set'.
