  • 48" Bobcat Walk-Behind. Whats a fair price?

I am selling a walkbehind mower with hydrostatic drive which was given to me by a friend. It had a seized engine which I replaced with a spare 12HP Commercial Briggs. Original engine was a 17 HP Kawasaki.
I dont know the exact condition of any or the equipment such engine hydros etc. All I know is it starts runs and cuts well. I am looking to sell for something a little smaller but was wondering what a fair price to offer. Thanks.

being that you down graded the horsepower by 5 hp and you replaced the kawasaki motor with a briggs you depreciated the heck out of it so unless the mower itself is only a couple years old you would be lucky to get more then 300.00 from someone who knows mowers.
but then again a homeowner would probably pay more, how much more depends on how savvy they are with commercial mowers.

Wow $300 doesnt stretch very far around here. It does run like a champ with the commercial Briggs but yeah it was a shame the Kawasaki engine got fried.
It must of got some real use to wear out an engine or someone simply neglected to keep a check on the oil . If that is about all they go for maybe it's best to save for around the house, cause it only takes about 10 minutes to knock out the yard where the push mower takes about 30.

I think you'd be lucky to see more than $500 even to the right buyer. Twelve horse on a 48" deck is underpowered (or damn near close). An unedumakated scrub looking to upgrade to a commercial WB would likely bring you the best money. :alien::alien::alien:

You should be able to get $1000 for the machine with no problem.

To the trained with an actual mechanical educated they will understand the hydro pumps and motors are worth that alone.

What engine it has is insignificant when running garden tractors with good engines can be had for less than $100 on craigslist all day long.

          And a 12hp I/C B&S will work fine. I actually know this for my second season using a 12hp B&S I/C on a 52" Toro hydro drive.

Would you pay the guy $1000 for his mower? :alien::alien:

No I would not. But at $500 I would and take the pistol grips off and add a T-Bar from my belt drive collection.

There is a 36" Bobcat belt drive 12hp Kaw on the CL for $800 in PA right now.

You need to realize that you can get for something in BF Egypt Kansas may not be the same as in the population center of the northeast corridor.

Just because a mower is listed at $800 doesn't mean it will sell for $800, if even sell at all.

You're a frequent user of craigslist. Of all people you know it's best to barter esp w/ craigslist merchandise.

Glad you and I find $500 an appropriate price. :alien::alien::alien:

With the 12 Hp commerical Briggs I have not noticed any issues with being underpowered. Still seems to be a serious machine. Then again the blades are sharp right now. Looks like you could bolt just about any type of engine to it. Anyhow I do appreciate the advice from everyone.

Well incase anyone is intersted, it was listed yesterday on Craigslist for $800 & sold for $600 today. Someone doing lawn service picked it up just a short while ago. He should make his cash back fast with it. Me Im glad to have a little extra room in the shed for some more junk.
