  • Trimmer head replacement

    Gentlemen,

I'm a homeowner with a Troy-Built 4 stroke string trimmer. The 2 string bump head that came with it wore out after a few years ( it gets used about 10 times a year). I got an aftermarket head that uses 3 fixed strings, a Rhino Tuff. but it does not work well. I think it's to heavy and have trouble getting the machine to hold speed, it feels like it's dogging.

What would you recommend for a replacement head for this type unit?

    thanks,

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

I am not sure what machine you have. I would go back to where you purchased it and ask their advice. If it was Home Depot you may want to check a different salesman. Some of the people are pretty good and some are pretty bad.

The problem I think you will face is that the trimmer heads are not interchangable. A Stihl will not fit on a Shindawa. You may want to look on the internet at the Troy-Built WEB site and see what they offer?

If you go up to a professional model it will cost about $250 - $300 to get in the game. You may want to look in Craig's List for used professional trimmers.

Anyone know of a generic trimmer head that works on multiple brands? Thanks.

You can find replacement heads all day long but you need to know the shaft thread size (in mm I think).
