  • What type of Push mower should be bought?

    Hello,
I am in need of a push mower the one that I have been using is not doing a good enough job anymore. I need something that would be easy to push on a slight incline and the such. Not rough ground but one that has a slight slope and some small hills. any brand names that are good?
I heard that toro, honda ect. are pretty good. Any thoughts would be great. Ray w.

I would recomend a Cut Cadet. Great power, Kawasaki engine, very well built, 6 speed self-propelled, 21" cut. All around great machine! (Don't get the one with the caster wheels) Also, although this is a good mower, I would not particularly use it for a primary mower if at all possible. Lowes sells them for $459 I believe.

I also recomment the Cub Cadet

I bought the Cub Cadet based on Mike's review and am happy with is so far. Does a great job bagging as we had several rainy days here and I let my own lawn get away from me.

I've got a Honda Commercial and I love it. I don't know if you want a residential or commercial model. I don't know anything about the residential models at all. The commercial model is self-propelled, so small hills are no problem. I have had problems mowing on sloped tree lawns. Especially if there are cars parked there. I don't know if I'm making any sense here to you. But I've noticed that becuase of the weight of the Honda, it wants to skid off the tree lawns pretty easily especially if the grass is wet. But I can tell you the Honda is worth the money. It's a good machine.

I went our and was looking at some models earlier and I had a question about some items. Are the bigger back wheels on some of the mowers a good idea or useful? I noticed some are self propelled are these models good? How do you move them around in tight areas? Also, the salesman said that the rear wheel drive self propelled is better than the front wheel ones. He said the front wheel drive has a tendency to dig into the ground. Any opinions on this?
I also noticed that the Husqvarna models and the Toro models look almost exactly alike other than the color. Are they produced by the same company?
Thanks for any help, Ray w.

I also have a Cub Cadet 21" but it has the castor wheels in the front. I bought it last year and has done a good job so far. This type mower is not commercial but are built fairly heavy duty. Only time will tell.
