Thanks Marty, glad you chimed in! I will be getting that Echo CS3400 simply because of your recommendation.

I will agree that my 3 Farm Boss units are heavy, but really get the job done. We use them every week, but not every day.

If you read this post, I'd like to ask you what you feel is the best saw comparable to the Farm Boss. I know you said the MS260, but what if you changed brands?

And also....It's funny you mention Jonsered. I had a guy brag about his older trimmer. So I showed him my older 225 Husky. He didn't bring his Jonsered to compare, but thought they may have the same design and engine. Can you help out on this question??

Cole, I do recommend practicing on your own property being that you are in need of tree removal as you said (just be very careful at first). There is definately alot to learn, believe it or not. There are Arborist courses at many local vocational centers, or colleges. Many times, you can simply take just that one class. I was lucky, we lived on a farm, and there's nothing better than a Father and Grandfather teaching you the proper ways!! You may also do a search on the internet. There are many sites that will at least give you the general ways and secrets. Good luck. It takes alot of training to get comfortable around homes and such.

I went to my dealer today. I looked at stihl and echo. He said what he has seen over the years, is low end stihl blows compared to low end echo. Said high end both are bad to the bone. I am getting a small saw now and if need to get bigger will buy another and use this one for limb removal or chop up. Echo CS-300. $199.99.

You will be getting a larger chainsaw quicker than you think. Once your customers realize you offer the service, you'll get a lot of business. You will need a saw that will at least cut a tree the size of a dinner plate. I only cut this size or smaller and there's a lot of business.

I guess I'll throw in my opinion on this..

I have a Husqvarna 351 and an Echo CS-300. I recommend Husqvarna for the more powerful, and better cutting; although they are more expensive. I use my Husky to do anything on the ground. My new Echo CS-300 ($120 fall clearance at HD), is gonna go up in the trees! This thing is the lighest saw I have ever used and the price can't be beat.

But Husquvarna does have smaller saws and Echo does have larger saws, so I really can't compare them..

Hey I started my tree cutting this past Saturday. It was fun. I cut a small one down and trimmed a huge oak. All this on my new lot. My dad has an old Poulan I used for now. Something came up and I couldnt get the saw yet. I will be getting the CS-300 and will look for a larger one when I get a big enough job.

              Thanks Everyone.

Get the larger one first....just get the 16" bar if you need something smaller. You'll be glad you did.

                  Scaper,
I dont really have the extra money to spend and I need one soon. I can squeeze $200 out since I have to get one now but upwards of $300 now is not possible. Do you really think I should just wait to get the bigger one.

That Echo can hold a 12" bar I think. I believe it comes with a 14" bar. Not sure how big the trees are that you will be taking down. If they are close to 14" and bigger. I'd save your money, I really would. It's not as easy cutting a log as big as the bar. The extra $100 is well worth it. The Farm Boss will chew threw that stuff much quicker. Having said that, if the trees are small (like 12"), then the Echo is a fine machine for them. If you plan on doing a decent amount, the larger saw will be needed more than the smaller one.

Just my opinion, I'd wait......or go ask the Pops for some extra $$.

Scaper, I appreciate all the info, you seem to be one of the most positive informatives in the forum. I might wait. My wife isn't big on me spending much on the merchandise when it's not being used alot. That is why I want to really explode in size this next season. That way she cant say much on the money I spend because it will all be lawn money and hopefully soon my actual biz. Thanks
