  • Fastest mower??

I JUST STARTED IN THE LAWN BUSINESS THIS PAST JUNE, WHILE SHOPPING FOR MOWERS I NOTICED THAT A LOT OF GUYS HAD DIXIE CHOPPERS ON THIER TRAILERS. I INQUIRED AT THE LOCAL DEALER WHO HAD DIXIE'S, HUSKY'S AND X-MARKS IN THE SHOWROOM AS TO WHAT WAS THE BEST MOWER IN HIS OPINION. HE IMMEDIATLY POINTED TO THE HUSKY, I INQUIRED THAT THE DIXIE'S CLAIM TO BE THE FASTEST MOWER IN THE WORLD AND I WOULD LIKE ONE THAT WAS FAST. HE STILL POINTED TO THE HUSKY, AFTER SHOPPING AROUND I BOUGHT THE HUSKY. IT IS A 52" WITH A 25HP KAL. ENGINE
LAST WEEK I FINALLY DROVE A DIXIE AT ANOTHER DEALER, HE SWORE THAT THEY WERE WAY FASTER THAN THE HUSKY AND A MUCH BETTER MOWER, I DROVE IT AND WAS NOT REAL IMPRESSED. I FELT IT SAT UP TOO HIGH AND THE HYDRALICS WERE TOO TOUCHY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES HEARING HOW MUCH FASTER THE DIXIE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE, WE LINED THEM UP. NOW TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT HIS WAS A BRAND NEW MODEL, 50" WITH A KOHLER ENGINE(NOT SURE OF THE HP) MINE WAS DIRTY FROM A WEEK OF WORK, 250 HRS ON THE MOTOR, NEEDING A FILTER AND OIL CHANGE WITH ONE TIRE LOW ON AIR. THE OUTCOME WAS A TIE.... WE WERE ON THE PAVEMENT AND DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO CUT GRASS SIDE BY SIDE, BUT I DID MANAGE TO PULL THE FRONT END OFF THE GROUND A FOOT WHEN I NAILED IT. I THINK WITH A TUNE UP AND A NEW SET OF BLADES THAT ALL DIXIE'S WOULD HAVE TO BOW TO THE NEW HOT ROD OF THE INDUSTRY. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THE HUSKY'S.....

I love my husky. Only problem I've had with it was with the front tires, had to install tubes, no big deal. Another good thing is that they're orange!!!

I'm looking at the Hustler Z, 23 hp - which goes 9 mph
& the Super Z, 25 hp - which goes 15 mph. I guess you have to consider how much time would you realistically go 15 mph though - unless you have a fair amount of nice wide open commercial accounts....

I heard some good things about Husky Mowers but bad things about the Company as far as bankrupcy possibilities. Unsure if that is true. That is the only reason I'm not getting one. I am going with either the 2003 Totally New Gravely, Exmark, or Hustler. Like Kfish said, how often are you constantly gonna go 15 mph anyway. But the Hustler really is bad to the bone.

E.Cole, I'd like to read this info on the huskys. You got a link?

I believe it's the blade speed and the sharpness of your blades that dictates your travel speed. You can go 100mph, but if your blade speed is crap and you run dull blades you're gonna have to go over your yard 2-3x to get a quality cut.

Husqvarna does their homework before putting out equipment! But, I do believe that the Hustler is the fastest kid on the block. But, who's gonna mow at 15mph??

Another great Z that I was impressed by? Kubota. But very, very expensive.

Jeeze, if I see a Dixie Chopper by me, its like spotting a snow owl in Miami. I have only spotted the rare Dixie once, and would never put that damn thing on a lawn of mine. LOL
Sounds like something from Little House on the Praire.

But I have used Husky equipment, still running a Husky blower thats about 7-8 years old. Now thats good stuff, but like the rare Dixie, no one sells Husky around here anymore.

You are only going to be able to mow at a slower speed in most cases unless the area you are mowining is wide open and smooth.

                      Scott,
Like I said, I HEARD Husky was having problems. I think they are great mowers. I don't care if I mow at 5, 10, 15, 55 mph. I don't make a crap. Everything I cut fast or slower looks damn good. I wouldn't mow at 100 mph with dull or sharp blades. But if they were dull, wouldn't you just sharpen them. Hummm. Something to think about.

I had that problem on my Metro. I put some of that green slime in it, it seals everything and anything. The salesman told me he could jab a nail through it and it wouldn't go flat. No need for a tube.

Scott, I wasn't mad at you, I DO have about 14 regulars now. I had a couple when I made the post in August. I worked hard on getting word out of my quality of work. If you would have looked and dug through all your research you did on me and my posts, you would have noticed that I posted about a couple of lots I was asked to bushhog. I used a good friends DR. Field/Brush Cutter and it worked great and that is why I reccommended it OK. So don't assume you know me. You know what happens when you ass u me. But, you may know the Biz better than me. I am 22 years old and have cut since I was 8 years old. The first time my pops let me do it. Ever since then and was able to take the mower to use myself, about 12 years of age, I have made money on neighbors and family. I have since 12 years of age had about 5 constant lawns. I never WANTED to pursue this career. Now I see the potential. Now as far as the inaccurate sentencing goes. Come on it's a forum, not English 101. I'm not hear to impress you or anyone else with my typing skills. When I am speaking with someone who is worth sitting back and absorbing what they say, then I do it. Make a note to the Wal-Mart chainsaw thing. I didn't say I would buy one, I said I saw one real cheap. If I bought this it would be used up in the tree to cut down large limbs on my own property. If I offered tree services to the public, of course I would have nicer equipment. But to that as well, I just bought an Echo. I am about to get an ExMark Laser Z HP also. But you didnt know any of this because you are just babbling about how much better you are than me. So get over it and do some growing yourself.

E.Cole Soon to be professional according to Scott or maybe never. Ask him he know me better than I do.

no but's about it, I do and I've been in this business from a professional outlook for over 10 years, which is a huge difference from being a 12 yr old cutting your grass to get money to play video games and buying cheeseburgers.
In addition I never said I was better than you, I said I know this business better than you.

                              happy cutting with your Laser.
