  • Chain Saws

I was talking to a Logger the other day and asked him about the types of chain saws and what was a good type of chain saw to get.

He uses Stihl and said that they were the best that he has used if you are the primary user. He said that Huskies are the best if you have several people using the same saw because they are more forgiving and a little sturdier under this type of use.

He explained that the saw needs to run smooth inorder to get a good fast cut. Everytime it bounces in the cut it is less effective.

I also asked what he uses for a oil/fuel mixture and he uses the Stihl oil mixed with 87 octaine gas. On his larger saws he buys a new saw every year, these are the 3-4' blade saws.

The guy sounds like he knows his stuff. And we surely can't argue that. I too would have said the same thing about the two brands. Both are top notch. I would have thought the Stihl would take punishment as much as the Husky.

I use the Stihl 2-cycle in all of our 2 cycle equipment regardless of brand. Even though all we run are Stihl and Husky.

Sammy, I will have to try the 89 octane. I have always just used the 87 in all the equipment.

Scaper this guy moved here from Washington state where he use to log for a living. He moved here to NC about 8-9 years ago. He has diversified here a little. He still does logging but also residential tree falling and trimming.

Don't get me wrong he didn't say that Stihl were not sturdy and strong. He was just saying he found that Huskies were more forgiving when used by several different people.

All he uses is Stihl saws now and he definitly puts them through the paces.

I love both brands for saws. I doubt you could go wrong with either. I wouldn't really have a preference.

In my opinion, stihl makes the best smaller/climbing saws. Husky makes better large saws. Be careful of buying a husky from a national chain (lowes etc.) because they're made by poulan. (not a good saw)

Airborne, pretty sure Husky and Poulan ar owned by the same company. A Husky you buy from Lowes is exactly the same as the one you can buy from your dealer or over in Sweden. They sell them in over 100 countries. They don't sell bad ones or market them bad at Lowes. Lowes is but a drop in the bucket when you consider world-wide sales. Not trying to sound harsh, just sayin'.
