I have commercial equipment, but I was watching my neighbor cut their lawn with a Has. RIder with the rear wheels that turn instead of the front ( I guess their version of a Z) and it sounded funny. The overall appreance of the mower looked fragile and if something broke, I bet it would take a bit of time to fix. I will stick to my 48" SCAG. By the way, it did as losuy job at mulching!!there was grass sticking up everywhere!Andy

I have a Husky Z and it is a fine machine.
Aproct,
do you mean husky rider?
What your neighbor was riding was a residential unit comparable to your yardman, mtd, etc...
as for poor mulching, we all know that that could be caused by several factors; mowing too fast, dull blades, grass was too tall and was attempting to take off too much at one time. Most likely since they're just Johnny Homeowner, the poor mulching job was probablity contributed by speed and dull blades.
I don't have any two cycle stuff yet but it's on my list come the new year.

Husq is my friend
I am also new in this business and did alot of research before buying new equipment. You will get lots of good advice and brand loyalty is common in this forum. An old bartender once told me that every man needs good shoes, a good mattress, and good tires. An LCO needs good equipment!
A short, but funny story:
I bought a Husqvarna commercial trimmer. It is a "man's trimmer", not something most homeowners would need. I am extremely happy with it. So one of my pessimistic neighbors come over and say "hey, nice trimmer, how much you pay for that?" When I said $300+, they all laughed it up and reminded me that you can go to Home Depot and get a trimmer for $100. They thought I was a fool. Next week when his trimmer broke down, he came and asked if he could borrow mine. Now who is laughing? He eventually gave me his old trimmer. I put a new spark plug in it and gave it to my sister. The moral of the story could be that he who laughs last, laughs the hardest. But more importantly, buy the best you can afford and take care of it. Read the manuals and remember that negative people are all around you. I give Husqvarna the thumbs up.

Scott,
I ment Hus. short for Husqvarna. Hit the "a" and not the "u". Anyway, I know what you mean though about there were many variables to the grass and so forth. After I have been out taking care of other properties, come home and take care of my own making sure the lines are nice and straight and nothing is left standing, it drives me insane to see the crap job being performed next to my lawn. I just feel that a lawn is a reflection of the homeowner. If they care about their lawn that much to not care about the grass not being cut properly, then they shouldn't be cutting there own grass! I now know why people put up fences!!!
Sorry, didn't mean to go off like that. As for equipment, I would go with what you can afford and what is said on the forum. Like what was said earlier, it all comes down to maintanence! If you take care of the equipment, regardless what brand, it will take care of you.Andy

aproct...i bet you saw your neighbor using the articulating Swedish Rider that Husky makes and sells to consumer customers. I dotn know what type of grass your neighbor has, or if the yard is in good shape, but if its a well manicured lawn with a good stand of grass then the Swedish Rider supposedly makes the nicest cut of any consumer model rider on the market. Maybe he has dull blades or just doesnt know how to use it properly. Maybe you should mow his lawn for him!
Those who go to work in the dark and come home in the dark are bound to be successful.

have husky trimmers, string and hedge. Along with a Husky 36" WB with 14" kaw engine. Love the machine and I'd put it up there with any cut I've seen by a Exmark.
It holds the slope pretty good and the belts rarely slip except when mowing in the rain. Won't buy anything else. Husky all the wayI use Gopher Billing & Scheduling Software

my "expensive" mower, i dont want to mention the brand because then youll know how much $ i spent, is a pile ! what awaste of money! i use an old 21" craftsman that i bought for $5.00 at a flea market, i cleaned the carb out , put in a new float bowl. sharpened the blade and tied a piece of re bar to the rear rock flap. its light, starts on the first pull eveytime and has never let me downand i use it every day , all day. the point is name brand and status dont mean a thing ! know your machine and what its supposed to do and itll be fine. do you think my customers care what i use..no they dont. come on people its only mowing the grass.

the reason we buy commerical equipment is because of the the durability factor. Other mowers are fine but are generally not designed to take the physical abuse that commmerical ones do. Decks, bearings, wheels, spindles, motors, are where it will count.

lawn more the reason you crapsman lasts so long is because you are using it not an employee. I tell you an employee will eat that thing up in less than a couple of months.
High quality commercial equiptment will last much better. Yes they all have problems but commercial dollar/time in service will be your best bet any day.
As for husky I bought my grandpa the tractor YTH1542xp with the kawasaki engine. Yet it is slower than a commercial walkbehind or z but it does produce a very nice cut.

Heelo all. New here. Where I work, I have 5 husky trimmers, 322l. I have been using them for about six years, some new some that old. They are definitly built weay better than any trimmer you will get at the home store, although I now see lowes selling this very model now. But from my experience, they dont seem to have the commercial quality they should. They have all been back to the shop on numeroius occations, and getting parts to fix them usually took 2 weeks on the average. Good trimmers, but dont think I'll buy them again. We grow christmas trees among other things, and the three whirlybirds thet we trim them with are using echo motors and shafts. They have nver been down for any repair of any kind other that routine maintinance. So for my personal lawn care service, I bought the new straight shaft echo trimmer. The SRM230
Fantastic machine, beats the huskies on any day, any condition.
Just my two cent. Great site.
